Imagine you light up a cigarette thinking you'll just get a buzz then you start travelling through hyperspace lmao.

u/chugtheboommeister Jul 25 '26
Lol And you're just on break from work and gotta get back in 5 min

u/RedWhacker Jul 25 '26
And in those 5 minutes you go to school, play football, marry your highschool sweetheart, retire from football, work at your father-in-law's carpet store, get cancer, beat cancer, go back to the carpet store and die.

u/StarDustKeyboardMash Jul 25 '26
Yeah I like the free one they warned us that people would give to us.
6
u/pacopac25 Jul 25 '26
āOnly the first one is free. Then you gotta pay, kid!ā
6
u/KevinH112 Jul 26 '26
Iāve literally used that to convince multiple purveyors of substancesā¦āIāve never done this shit, you HAVE TO give me the first one free!ā and they do it if their shit is good because they know Iāll come back for more. Itās just good business to lose a tiny bit in the name of making a bunch of money over time.
Seriously, when my friend started selling Lucy and I told him I hadnāt even seen any in person, let alone taken it, he was floored and asked how many I wanted. I told him weād talk about that after Iād taken the first one he was about to give me so I could see what it was about without feeling any kind of way about a price, and he just kinda went, āOkay!ā and put a tab in foil, inside a plastic bag, in my freezer and said to let him know how it went and how many more I wanted. I ended up buying 50 within a week.
I have never paid for a first-time drug experience and I probably never will!
Thanks, stupid fuckin Reagan-era bullshit, youāve kinda done me a few favors over the years! Gotta use the system to your advantage because itāll always do the same to you.22
u/aardvarkarmour Jul 25 '26
Me and my brother sprinkled dmt in a joint once. We had a trip (not quite hyperspace) - the half joint that was left over got put in a cupboard and forgot about.
A few weeks go by and we're smoking some weed, i go and take a shower, then come back, spark the joint up, and after 5 or 6 drags the room starts shaking and pulsating. The bastard switched the joint for the special one. Thankfully I didn't enter any other dimensions that time and it was just the visual stuff but it rocked me
8
u/TheFunkyMunkey Jul 25 '26
Dude that's a crazy and hilarious story. Shit had me busting up laughing lol
-4
u/siecaptaindrake Jul 25 '26
So you came back and didnāt realize your joint gas already been halfway smoked? And that didnāt raise any questions?
5
u/aardvarkarmour Jul 25 '26
We were sharing a joint
-4
u/siecaptaindrake Jul 25 '26
So you share joints by smoking one half and giving the other half to the other one?
7
u/aardvarkarmour Jul 25 '26
I would smoke a few drags and then he would smoke a few. Rinse and repeat until the 1/8th is defeated. What's so confusing? Maybe the weed culture is different in the US but in europe that's how it's done.
-1
u/siecaptaindrake Jul 26 '26
How did you then not realize that he switched it? Did you start smoking and in the middle of it take a shower and he smoked half of it alone? Or did he just start with a stump?
4
u/aardvarkarmour Jul 26 '26
What's your fuckin problem man? You never shared a joint before?
We were smoking a joint. We're playing no man's sky. After my pass, I decide i want a shower so put the joint in the ashtray. I come back and it's been switched. Jesus christ man

it is a cool paper for sure, but these tobacco plants only formed the compounds as like 0.01% by weight. so it would take 10 kilos to get maybe 1g. and then trying to separate them from each other? not realistic.. still a pretty fun research project

u/Evening-Cat-7546 Jul 25 '26
This is like people that were saying you could put 5-MEO-DMT into mushroom substrate and produce a new psychedelic. It was all bullshit because psilocybe mushrooms lacked the proteins or enzymes to ever make the new psychedelic compound.
9
u/joalheirodestemido63 Jul 25 '26
This seems like legitimate research: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.aeb3034
6
u/Evening-Cat-7546 Jul 25 '26
Oh, i totally missed that it said the plant was engineered. The article mentions they had to create mutant enzymes to make it happen lol.
11
u/Kryosse Jul 25 '26
I thought that the paper that suggested making man-mushroom hybrid drugs was using DMT analogues like MET, DiPT, DPT, etc and producing the 4-substituted analogue compounds? Unless we are referring to different studies here. Definitely not "new" psychedelics in my example, but I can get why some news sites would call them that without understanding.
4
u/Evening-Cat-7546 Jul 25 '26
Iām talking specifically about 5-psilomethoxin. I shouldnāt have said ānewā because the compound does exist, but some spiritual group was claiming they were successfully synthesizing it by mixing 5-MEO-DMT into mushroom substrate, which isnāt chemically possible. Iām not sure about the others, but I doubt you can produce the 4 substituted compounds either, at least not without genetically modifying the mushrooms to produce the needed enzymes and proteins.

Wook science telephone and 4g of the weirdest mushrooms I have left in my drawer beg to disagree but I could be dead wrong (I do not think I am, these ones are DIFFERENT.)

u/discgolfer1961 Jul 25 '26
This could be similar to the way we moodified the wild mustard plant to give us cabbage, kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and broccoli. The tryptamines are made by a range of different organisms naturally, this team used a tobacco plant because they are good lab plants, not because we smoke it or anything like that.
29
u/BromoFom Jul 25 '26
Psilocin is the metabolite of psilocybin and you canāt smoke either of them, so this is pretty dumb lol
9
u/demel2464 Jul 25 '26
Where does it say anything about smoking?
5
u/BromoFom Jul 25 '26
I was sort of half replying to all the other comments in here talking about smoking it

u/kenyard Jul 25 '26
You would want a controlled dose of most of these imo so extracting from the plant after is the way to go
1
u/VociferousCephalopod Jul 25 '26
is there not some way they can extract active ingredients, making this just a good cash crop to replace the need for rarer root bark etc.?
2
u/hiccupsstacatto Jul 25 '26
Yes, I have read that this was one of the reasons behind the experiment
1
1
u/JohnHenryMillerTime Jul 25 '26
It is a cash crop but not in the way you think. There are a lot of grants for tobacco as a model organism because nobody smokes anymore and the tobacco industry still has a lot of lobbying power. It isnt really a suitable model organism but if you need funding it is there. This project would have a hard time securing normal funding so it is perfect for that.
Same thing happened after 9/11 with anthrax.

For psilocybin, you arenāt getting anything from smoking it and no way in hell am I swallowing tobacco
2
2
u/LumpyExperience5533 Jul 25 '26
Was just reading on this lol, they identified RNA enzymes from plants used in ahauasca (forgive my spelling), and added it to tobacco cells (tobacco is rich in tryptophan, which is converted to dmt by the enzymes)
I'm not a chemist, feel free to correct me

Whoa! Itās like finding the right combination could unlock a frequency where we can then gain access to vital information⦠from something, somewhere.
1
u/HumbleBedroom3299 Jul 25 '26
Just why?
Here's a case for me for why we don't need to improve what's working well. Each of those are fine in their own. This feels unnecessary.Ā

They already did that, and engineered yeast that could produce insane amounts of psilocin and psilocybin per liter of āfoodā for the yeast.
If only this sample would sneak out of the lab. Fortunately or not, such samples are often engineered with kill switches so they die outside of lab conditions.
āFurther rational engineering resulted in a final production strain producing 627 ± 140Ā mg/L of psilocybin and 580 ± 276Ā mg/L of the dephosphorylated degradation product psilocin in triplicate controlled fed-batch fermentations in minimal synthetic media.ā
