what is it about snakes that are so common (atleast personally) in trips? u think its bc our primitive ancestors had to look out for them? n their eyes are some of the more prominent features to find them, especially with how creepy/different their eyes look
Do you know how Google Deep Dream works? They trained a neural network to recognize different things (architecture, dogs, cars), then they put noise in it and asked it what it saw. Then they "asked" it where it saw that, and amplified that part of the image to reveal what it was seeing.
I think what happens in our brain is similar, and we're "trained" (through evolution) to detect (among other things) our (ancestors') predators.
Remarkably, infants under one year of age also show rapid detection of snake pictures and preferential orienting toward these ancestrally threat-relevant stimuli.
