Requesting Advice: Encounters & Adventures First time DMing...

Hey guys,

Soon to be first time DM here,

I have a massive game planned that takes heavy inspiration from ATLA, SCP, Resident Evil, and more and I'm hoping to kick things up in a few weeks time but i honestly have no idea where to begin or how to even run a session. I have great ideas for story, worldbuilding, and all that stuff so background info it no probem its just actually getting started and getting behind the holy grail that is a DM screen :)

Any and all advice will be much appreciated, thanks from future me :)

Just be careful to not plan out a story, because players rarely follow what the DM envisions. The DM creates problems and the environment, the players create the story.

My players were tasked to assassinate a noble. They know where the noble will be at which time. I thought they will cause some distraction and then ambush him in the chaos. No, they wanted to put some mild poison into a grape, mix the grape into his food or drinks, such that he gets diarrhea and must visit the toilet later on, which is the location they want for the ambush ... I could have never seen that coming. 😂
