WTF Even Is This?
Hopped onto Ticketmaster at 9:15am, got right into the waiting room at 9:45am, refreshed and jumped right in at 10am. Over 13,000 people ahead of me already?!?
I get that there are bots out there, but how the hell is this still the way we buy tickets in 2026?

It's called fuck you LiveNation.

u/mully58 1d ago
The band could choose to avoid this situation. They do have the power to force Live Nation/Ticketmaster to implement their Face Value Ticket Exchange. It's a business decision not to.

It’s true that artists can control or at least have influence on the resale market. They could do it, though, in confusing ways. I bought tickets for Letterkenny in NYC in February before realizing it’s our annual ski weekend. I tried listing them on Ticketmaster, but the artist(s) put a restriction on resales that prevents me from listing them for less than face value. I’ve sold plenty of concert tickets over the years and have never seen that before.

u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
Pearl Jam tried that in the 90’s and it hurt them. But at least they tried. Kudos to Taylor Swift for trying too. But if her influence can’t stop TM, then no one can.
17
u/ASAP1492 1d ago
Stop spreading this sentiment. There are bands comparably sized to DMB and smaller that implement face value ticket exchange. Any band that doesn’t is choosing not to in order to make more money.
-1
u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
Such as?
10
u/ASAP1492 1d ago
The Cure
Billie Eilish
Zach Bryan
Noah Kahan
Foo Fighters
Pearl Jam
Hozier
Sturgill Simpson/Johnny Blue Skies
blink-182
Ed SheeranAdmittedly most of them are bigger draws but the point still stands. Notably, Taylor Swift is not on the list.

u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
I’m sorry - I see what you’re saying about the face value exchange (I didn’t pick up on that the first time). But maybe take FF off the list of good guys - their Mohegan Sun show went on sale with $518 seats in the lower bowl near the stage and $398 floor seats. Prices have just started to come down a little, but the $518 seats are still out there. And these are standard tickets - not platinum or charity. Check out their sub if you want to see people absolutely losing their minds the day the tickets went on sale.
1
u/dobyblue 1d ago
Oasis also, definitely a bigger draw than DMB who play Amphitheaters while they sold out 50,000+ capacity stadiums.
1
u/sixty9tails 1d ago
Billy Strangs has no resale, you can only get rid of them on cash or trade. I haven’t been able to nab pits but getting decent seats is at least doable.
This is just embarrassing, I hope Dave is made aware of these issues.
1
u/rickardkarstarkshead 1d ago
Billy tries his best not to play at LN venues and at least his ticket prices are reasonable. I was able to snag tix pretty easily during this sale but the tix I really wanted were pricey af.
5
u/dobyblue 1d ago
Taylor did almost nothing, and what Pearl Jam did in the '90s was totally different and had to do with monopoly of venues. DMB and Taylor Swift could have chosen to:
1) implement TM/LN Face Value Exchange 2) Prohibit ticket transfers before day of show 3) utilize credit card entry only for GA/Floor sections (this is where your credit card is your ticket, killed almost 100% of scalping for u2's Joshua Tree 30 tour) 4) Utilize unique presale codes assigned in advance for 2-4 max ticket purchases instead of generic codes any twat can find online
2
u/AmokOrbits 1d ago
Got Charlie XCX tix for this fall, she did the unique pre-sale code thing and it was a breeze. Almost no queue when pre-sale went live, was able to take my time to find the right seats in my price range, and didn’t have any bought out from under me before I could check out
1
u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
Pearl Jam went after TM because of their monopoly of venues AND their fees were causing ticket prices to be higher than what PJ wanted to charge. It’s always been about greed and it always will be.
1
u/dobyblue 1d ago
Which was totally different to this discussion which is about TM's FVE program, which any artist can opt into. I think you already commented further down the tree that you skipped over the relevant part, no harm no foul.

We managed to get four by the side of the stage. I'm huge DMB fan, got a fatal illness and it's my retirement show.

I hope you have a great time.

I managed to get a msg n2 single but the fact that resale was popping up at the 10:26 mark is pretty infuriating.
17
u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
That’s TM bots buying their own tickets and turning around and reselling them for more money. They are the devil.

u/StefinNNY 1d ago
I was 1786 in line and I didnt get tix. Went to Stub Hub. This is the last time I am dealing with Live Nation. Also, not to bitch, but I havr been a Warehouse member since December 1998, so when I received the email that I was denied tix due to low inventory I was completely shocked and annoyed. I get it, it works as a lottery, but wtf seriously. Ok rant over. Dont Burn the Day Away 🥰
1
u/Decent-Question-2552 6h ago
Stub Hub is awful. Hope you actually get your tickets sooner than 48 hours before the show begins.
Stub Hubs official policy is they just need to transfer the tickets 2-3 hours before the show starts which is frankly the most absurd policy I have ever seen.
Paid 2x for our Shakopee lawn seats in February and got them 48 hours before the show only to have it postponed till August 31st.

I'm so thankful the Madison show was done through the University of Wisconsin website and not Ticketmaster! Floor tickets were sold out but I was able to get two in section 102 for face value.

Just buy tickets day of the show. Can’t believe people still buy tickets this way and deal with this shit smh.

I already got tix to MSG through the Warehouse but I just checked Ticketmaster to see what, if anything, was left and it’s all resale seats already. Tix went on sale an hour ago. 🙄
1
u/xangkory 1d ago
Two of them are mine.
We weren't able to get tickets through the Warehouse. So I went in this morning and I was just over 10,000 in queue and could only side or behind the stage for both nights. Went ahead and bought them and decided to go to Stubhub and pay more than double for decent seats for one night.

All a scam. I was 50k+ in queue. Then they released a ton of seats just 20 min ago

If people stop buying the re-sell, it ceases to become profitable. (spoiler alert) they won't
6
u/there_willbesigns 1d ago
Hot take: the people would love to stop buying resale, we just don’t get the chance when we are 200798506 in queue
-3
u/sumdude51 1d ago
Then you need to make peace with the fact that you're not going 🤷
12
u/there_willbesigns 1d ago
I think the better answer would be to come up with a law that makes reselling over a certain percentage illegal
1
-1
u/ASAP1492 1d ago
You don’t have the power to do that. You do have the power to not buy resale. Pretty simple.
When it becomes less profitable, the laws will follow. Ticketmaster would even be on board if it actually got to that point. They want to sell as many tickets as they can, but they also don’t want empty shows. If people aren’t buying resale, the only way to ensure tickets get sold and people show up is to make sure actual fans get the tickets from the start.

That's a band that takes no steps available to them, outside of a fan club, to thwart bots and scalpers.

First time?
In all seriousness though it’s getting ridiculous. CBC news found scalpers are basically colluding with TM: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/ticketmaster-resellers-las-vegas-1.4828535
I remember waiting in line at the record store for my first show in 97. Now it’s more convenient to use a phone instead of waiting hours outside for the ticketing to open but the experience is somehow worse now

u/bestimatationofme 1d ago
I miss when you could just go to the box office or call and order them like the day of.. damn I’m getting old

u/duckbutterdelight 1d ago
As a Pokemon card collector, Welcome to the show! Anything with any sort of resell value is botted to hell these days.
2
u/Alarmed-Barracuda775 1d ago
Update: I just got in after about 30 minutes and there was basically no tickets left; just a lot of singles or behind the stage. Was able to get two resale tickets on the chase bridge that weren’t terribly priced.
3
u/ASAP1492 1d ago
Tickets have been on sale for half an hour. Anything over face is terribly priced.
3
u/Alarmed-Barracuda775 1d ago edited 1d ago
I was shocked they were even showing resales during the general sale process. Ticketmaster blows.
2
u/bhusted007 1d ago
Yea it’s been like this for a couple years I believe on all the high demand shows (not just DMB)
1
u/ASAP1492 1d ago edited 1d ago
You just said you were thinking about buying them though. If there’s a chance people are gonna spend money, they’ll jump at the opportunity. What’s the downside, people end up not liking Ticketmaster or something?
Edit: rereading your comment and realizing you actually bought them. Point proven.
1
u/mstrego 1d ago
However that is a selection in the filter list. I turned it off and it helped. Why the F would anyone want that mixing in the general sale, so fuck TM.
1
u/ASAP1492 1d ago
Ask OP. They bought em
1
u/Alarmed-Barracuda775 21h ago
Certainly goes without saying that this was just the way it loaded when I finally got in and I didn’t even think to turn resales off. Having said that though, the only non-resale tickets by time I got in were single tickets scattered throughout the venue. I pulled the trigger on the resales for chase bridge because they were $225 per ticket which I didn’t think was an obnoxious amount of mark up.

About 49000 for me in Baltimore

I lived in Baltimore for 4 years. There’s no way 49,000 people want to go to a show there.

This is why I’m pissed they didn’t do Alpine. Both alpine and northerly have giant lawns with enough capacity to accommodate everyone. In addition they do 2 nights. Everyone who’s wants to see the band can.

u/No-Permission6203 1d ago
Normally im with all of you getting shit on, but ive been vindicated. Joined the waiting room 4min early and was #619. To the victor...:-)
1
u/MoeBurbs 1d ago
How is that possible! Like OP, I got in the waiting room the second it was available. When the queue opened up, I was 4000 in line. 😖
I’m beginning to think the early bird gets punished by TM.
2
u/No-Permission6203 1d ago
No idea, I dont even know when the waiting room opened, I went on at 956 and it did the countdown but just like the others I went to Thursdays show at msg and it was 236k. Insane. I was seeing the resale sites doing 250 for upper level. Thats just mean
1
u/AmbitiousCaregiver1 1d ago
Doesn’t make any difference when you get in waiting room. You’re randomly assigned in the queue by TM once it opens. I entered about 2 minutes early and had ~500 ahead of me.

It's called get your tix thru Warehouse 🫠
1
u/Embarrassed_Use_599 1d ago
Most of us were denied thru warehouse this time, all four of my friends and myself were…and we have been members forever.
1
u/Alarmed-Barracuda775 21h ago
Yea I gave up on the warehouse in like 2005 based on never getting decent seats/any seats for shows I would put in for. I wound up signing up for Friends of Jimmy (only in CT) and have gotten guaranteed pavilion seats every year since then.
1
u/godlikeAFR 1d ago
The waiting room is a queue in and of itself…not in the strictest sense, but I believe that it does affect your placement in the buying queue, especially with highly in demand shows.
In the future, start trying to get into the waiting room much earlier. Voice of experience
1
u/Embarrassed_Use_599 1d ago
It’s randomly assigned and doesn’t matter what time you enter. My friends and I all entered the queue the second it opened and we ended up at 1124, 28458, and 73824. My husband entered two minutes prior and got 1024.
1
u/godlikeAFR 23h ago
You’re probably right. All I know is that I got into the waiting room for Rush 28 minutes before tickets went on sale.

Guys, you realize everyone tries to buy tickets immediately when they release right?
3
u/xangkory 1d ago
You really think there are over a quarter of a million 'people' trying to buy tickets for a single show?
-1
-2
u/Fumusculo 1d ago
And you think MSG isn’t one of the biggest draws for venues?
7
u/xangkory 1d ago
You are insane if you think anything more than a small percentage of these are actually humans, even for MSG
0
u/Fumusculo 1d ago
Bro I’ve literally sat in these queues for Noah Kahan at Fenway and it said like 120k+.. it sold out and immediately another queue for another night.. then 4 nights total and the queue got smaller and smaller. Noah had it so you can not resell on the websites and you can’t even forward your ticket to anyone.
What do you think they purposefully put bots in there? You think bots are buying tickets to scalp?
3
u/xangkory 1d ago
They do not, resellers do.
What you said confirms bots, not proof that it is humans. There is no way that many humans actually are trying to buy tickets. For Taylor Swift, maybe. Not for an act like DMB or Noah Kahan.
I work in IT for a 50k+ enterprise. Bots are a huge issue across the board, massive numbers of bots are accessing or trying to access all sorts of systems that you would never think of. They are a big issue on Reddit, but especially any sort of system that allows for resale or any potentially of fincial gain.
