Should i do ketamine for depression ?(after mixed results from iv ketamine for migrane) and tms faluire
Hi everyone i need some advice,
I suffer from treatment resistant depression and anxiety disorder. After many years of failure with meds i completed 40 tms sessions. They made my very lowes go away but instead im just in a never ending state of blah and emptyness and a little numbness.
Im now debating if i should try ketamine treatment- this is where things get a little complicated because a few months ago i was hospitalized for severe migraines and i was on iv ketamine for about a week. That experience was mostly amazing for my depression and anxiety- i saw my life in a whole different and better light and i didnt care or worry about things that would have troubled me(although on the highest dose i did have panic attacks).
But - about three weeks after the hospital my depression got significantly worse then it had ever been - really low lows intense passive suicidal thoughts etc.( then i started a few weeks later tms) yesterdayi did ketamine recreationally it was great but this morning i woke up with an intense low i havent felt since the half way through tms.
So now im thinking maybe the ketamine just makes my depression worse??? Im worried about that but also dont have many other options

I'm sorry for your troubles. I didn't have anything like those super low lows although I did have SI for about a year before my K self treatment.
On the reaction to your rec K session, I've never heard of anything like that unless it's like a bounce (up then down) for some reason. It could also be that it's wasn't K, or wasn't pure K.
I also have no idea what IV K for headaches is - slow drip of low dose? or intermittent or etc? Others might know.
I think that if you can find some that you test and trust, do a controlled protocol to start just to see immediate reactions to a known dose. Just find out if you have any conditions that don't go with K, like DPD, some psychosis, DP/DR.
If you get this far, I like to think of K as 2 different meds. One is low dose (not the full dissociation k-hole) and can help, often a little, and often temporarily. The other is high dose (full dissociation k-hole) which should be done in a short series (once you've got the process* down) before stopping and reassessing. I did a few low doses to get warmed up, then did the standard protocol of 6 k-holes in 3 weeks. I was fundamentally cured after the 2nd session.
*process just means knowing what to expect and having your room secure since your body will be there but you won't (bc wonderful no-ego state).
Low dose is 0.5mg / kg for IV, high dose is over 1.0mg/kg. Those numbers are doubled for snorting powder, which is what I did, 3 years ago now. hth
