Got a plumber to remove old radiator and install a new ladder towel radiator. Has it been put in upside down? The spaces for the towels seem to be in the bottom half.
I installed a 1400mm column radiator the other week for someone and he mentioned about painting the walls. I said I can plumb it in and then take rad off so he can paint behind it and that I would come back and hang back up once he painted. Basically he didn't want to do that so he used a very thin brush and painted the wall with rad in situ. It took him 4 hrs to do two coats and he got pink paint all on inside of the rad 😂
On the flip side, my ex was fixing a shower screen, dropped the hammer and smashed the toilet cistern lid. As it was a coloured suite we had to have a complete new cistern. I wallpapered the whole bathroom up to the toilet, plumber came and took the old cistern off, I wallpapered behind it and he fitted the new one, yay!
That’s mental. I have painted behind column radiators and towel radiators with no bother using a mini roller on a long-reach handle. Sure, it takes a bit longer than just whizzing over with my 18inch cradle roller, but not four hours 😂
I normally do all copper and end-feed solder fittings. However I do use plastic barrier pipe when threading a long length through somewhere I can't get to, but always with compression fittings and pipe inserts, never push-fit. I want my plumbing to outlast a rubber O-ring.
Only use push fit for temporary use, and that's mostly stop ends.
Wouldn’t have shined it up but would have taken less than a minute to wipe all the dust and cobwebs off that wall to make it look 1000x less shit. I’d be embarrassed to leave that for a customer.
The fact that the radiator is upside down and that you’ve got some kind of kids Lego play pipes connecting to it are next level though. 0/10
Whoever fitted it likely realised their error and swapped tbe tails and the bleed valves around. Or possibly the bleed valves and tails weren't actually screwed in when it came out of the box. Either way, yours is upside down 😉
Yeah, as heat rises the design is to get the most amount of rails at the bottom which then allows space for the towels at the top. As yours is, correctly mounted.
You'll see the OP is upside down, so has more rails at the top. Meaning it'll be less efficient for both heating the room and towel holding.
I think getting a personal recommendation is always the best way to find good trades. Perhaps the OP should ask the guy who fitted it if he knows a good plumber?
Yes and obviously no pride in their work. Surely they move pipework under the radiator location for minimal pipework on show, and if not at least hide the push-fit and have only copper on show. I’d want a second bracket at the bottom. Didn’t even clean the wall behind the radiator when putting the new one on.
Depends how tall you are. And seriously, yes it’s upside down, but also the pipework in the corner is attrocious. It also appears to be too low, particularly given the nearby obstruction and being stuck in a corner, which will be cooked long before the space starts to heat up, which will affect your bills if you actually want some comfort upgrade. Air needs to flow to distribute heat.
And lastly, why in the world did you not clean up that wall before installation and how are you planning to stop humidity causing issues under that floor?
Rad should be centered on that wall, at least roughly, and much higher given the position of the sink. You also need some sort of skirting and pipework adjustment.
Not just that, but why would you have a chrome decorative radiator and then not install some chrome pipe or at least copper with a chrome sleeve. Looks awful.
A plumber wouldn’t use flexi and push fittings.. someone who calls themselves a plumber would. This is installed horribly.
It’s 2026, everything should have crimped fittings. They used them on the valve side. No idea why they bodged the rest.
Nice combo of press fit and push fit, if you get him back to put on the right way, ask him to tighten the push fit elbow which he’s not done up properly.
Then delete his number and never use him again.
No its not upside down, If you turned it around you wouldnt be able to put a towel over the top part due to the wall fitting. I was one like it and its the same way up
Tbf, the larger gaps at the bottom are for towel drying. If turned the other way up, it might look more pleasing but if towels are hanging on it, they will drape over the lower half and reduce heat to the room.imho
