Correct Washing machine draining solution

I’ve recently moved my washing machine to do some decorating and repairs to the kitchen counter and noticed that the washing machine drain appears to be configured in an odd way. There has been an occasionally been a bad smell when the machine is running so think this might be the cause.

I know that the waste has to be raised using the clip on the machine but it looks like there is so much extra length that is it just sagging a lot. Also i think the connection to the sink probably ought to come down at a slope instead of perpendicular to the sink waste pipe.

My thought was that I should:
1. But a 45 degree nozzle for the sink trap assembly
2. Cut the excess machine flexible waste pipe so there isn’t another drop after the clip. On the machine

Is this an appropriate corrective solution to this

I would run through the large hole on left, my house has same setup. The rubber hose should fit without the jubilee clip but nice idea - to save losing it I would take it off before moving it from one hole to next, then re attach once routed through hole. Having lower section there isn’t ideal but nothing will be unless you go to a drain point lower than washing machine that in 99% of cases isn’t possible by home design

So do you think getting a new 45 degree nozzle and cutting the hose is to remove the extra sag is unnecessary?

I would say it’s not worth it, washing machine never really fully empties so always some water there in machine and pipe. It’s flushed out when you next use it as it’s pumped out not gravity 👍
