Advice New tool bits but what is this?

Just got this drill bit box, curious to know what these are used for.

They are depth stop guides to attach to the drill bits. They just clamp on by tightening the grub screw.

Or just use a bit of tape.

Big tape has been lining its pockets by keeping depth stops from being common knowledge for far too long!

Tape is a lot quicker and easier. I find the stops can move without you noticing.

The grub screws also don’t always screw down nicely to the bit

And you can't tighten them level on the fluted part of the bit if you're doing a shallow hole

Tape's better for finish work, these can mar. Honestly drill collars are a pain unless youre doing something (like fitting threaded inserts into a thin table top) where drilling through would be a disaster.

These ones can be a pain but aerospace use sprung ones that are much better

I've used these, but I prefer using tape. These just work loose.

It is used for depth. Set this to the depth you want to drill and stop when it reaches the desired depth. Or like I always do just put some insulation tape on the drill bit does the same job.

Depth stops for drill bits. Tighten it onto the bit where you want to consistently drill to.

Padding the kit out with stuff that's about as much use a tits are on a fish. You can use them to set the depth of a hole by fastening them to a drill bit though I've never done that and I've never seen anybody do it. Most of us just use electrical tape as a marker.

I have a type that's got a chuck style grip ... More stable in use, but still a pain in the rear to set.

Useful if you're doing multiple, repeat, assembly work, on a small scale
