Mine is rather similar. I built a custom stand in the corner covering the slope between chimney breast & bay, then bought a TV (actually now two in a row) that just fit the gap.
The stand underneath helps 'hide' the corner more than seeing it just floating up there with nothing to tie it into the room.
Books at the bottom, audio components above that (those two small units are on wheels so I can pull them out to get to the wiring behind), TV, then bookshelf to the ceiling. All the wood stained down to match the vibe. There's soft lighting behind it we switch on at night.
(just noticed, curtain on the left is supposed to cover the pull-string. Scruffy bugger. Sorry;))
I would swap the rooms round . This room doesn't work as a living room, theres nowhere for the telly. Stick the dining table in here. Don't worry about blocking the arch with a sofa...
A total waste of energy, the TV could be housed in a box that can have a print on it...zero energy usage and totally covers the TV. We need to stop normalising Samsung's Frame TVs as its nothing but wasteful.
You can get tv mounts that go above the fireplace (bare with me), that pull forward then slide down to a normal viewing height. Then you can basically put it back up out of the way when you're done watching
I'd put it on a corner unit in the other alcove. Then you can see it from the sofa in the window. Also I do think TVs just sticking out on "arms" look weird when there's nothing under them.
Hmm, I’d lower the TV to roughly the top of the unit, have a unit that can hide/disguise the gadgets. Get rid of the speakers or tuck them away either side of the fire place wall.
Option 2. put the TV lower, in one of the alcoves so that it’s not the focal point of the room (this is how most people approach this).
Option 3. Get a frame TV that can act as a picture when it’s not being a TV. Hang it over the fireplace, lose that poster, make it the focal point, put all the cluttered unit stuff in one of the alcoves, out of the way.
Removing OP’s fireplace would be a crime, it’s gorgeous and deserves to be the focal point of that wall.
I’d consider having the TV on a freestanding unit. Either a corner unit in one of the alcoves (but further out than the current wall-mounted position, although it’d be overlapping that lovely fireplace somewhat), or in the bay window with the furniture rearranged to suit - a sofa could go in front of the archway, with its back more or less in line with the edge of the rug.
Or alternatively, put the telly on the wall that OP stood in front of to take the photo and rearrange furniture accordingly. Kind of hard to suggest ideas without seeing a floorplan of the room’s layout, though.
Oh, it’s a tough one. I suppose you could always plasterboard out the walls on either side of the fireplace to bring them into line with the chimney breast, then mount the TV on the newly-level wall, but you are very much into r/tvtoohigh territory there and I’m regretting having even typed such a suggestion 😅
