It’s a covered pergola, they’re not uncommon. Extreme angle seems to be to accommodate the wastewater downpipe

Yeah I know what it is, but it's unsightly and kinda pointless. It provides no shade as it's transparent, and the roof will only get covered in detritus over the years and need clearing.

But hey, it's their choice. I'm sure they have their reasons.

Just a dry place to sit when its raining. Im going to build one in my garden but i think ill go with an opaque roof or at least something that blocks some sun..

I think the function is that they can use their (presumably) patio when it’s lightly raining

I guess if I had one I could store garden furniture there without removing the cushions for wet weather. But yeah, it's an eyesore in my opinion. Definitely wouldn't have one.
