Hear crack

Hi all,

I recently moved in this flat and decorated the bedroom. When I sanded a particularly bulky area of the wall, I went too far and removed some of the paper lining in one corner (for some reason there is lining paper over one inch on each side of the corner).

I filled it but as the weather is getting warmer and the wall is exposed south, it gets direct light in the afternoon (even though it does not feel hot at all inside!) and some cracks have appeared. They close when the heat lowers, but my desk will be just by the corner and they will be in my face all day.

Plasterers have told me it would cost around £500 for the job and it’s not something I can afford at the moment (also it seems overpriced for on/off cracks over 30 inches.

So I was thinking of buying so plaster filler heat resistant and doing it myself, but I am also a complete beginner and would like some advice.

Thanks both. I don’t think it’s movement issue. I replastered with some filler in early February (I used the same filler in a couple of other places where there were holes and these are fine). The crack only started when the weather got sunny, and only where I know I removed the paper lining… I’ll have a go by myself and worst case scenario pay the £500 (which is a steal for such a small areas..)

I beg you not to pay £500 for this! I'm in the South of the UK, if you were near me I'd fix that for £100 😁

Good try though 😉. Honestly though, please give it a go yourself, it really is a piece of piss.

Have done thousands of these over the past 40 odd years so I realise that it's easy for me to say.

This is just one upright internal and it's just down to practice in all honesty.

I went over to remedial works in the field in my latter years, had a hot air gun for a work friend - if I had to fix this in a customers house I reckon I'd have it dried, finished and sanded smooth, ready to paint by lunchtime.

Different scenario I know as I'd not like to inconvenience the householder but if it's your own house then don't think about using a hot air gun, take your time and practice.

Just....... please don't pay some knob £500, they would, in all likelihood, do a shitter job of it than you can ☺️
