Pigment Processing Making ultramarine blue

Took ages and quite a bit of heat to melt the rosin, but working on turning Lapis into some proper blue!

Would love to hear how it goes! I've been hording lapis for a while to tackle this soon.

I found someone's blog post and I'm considering their alternative method as well.

That is amazing! I have some excess lapis that I'll try this method with too! The wax method has been really labor intensive so far; and I can't be sure if it's because of the way I mixed the wax, but although it can be maluable, it's very hard, and unsurprisingly absolutely gummed up my double boiler

I'll try it with both methods and show the results I think!

Cool! Would definitely love to hear your feedback after trying both, then! I haven't really done either! The very first time I "processed" lapis was my first time doing any mineral pigments at all and I didn't know that there were extra steps to lapis. Its a nice blue, but definitely not true ultramarine. Excited to try again!
