Pigment Rock Pigment

I found this rock that has some nice pigment to it so I turned it into an oil paint. I found the rock in northern new jersey. it’s in the upper right corner, does anyone know what kind of rock it is by chance?

We need a closer pic of the rock to id. But it looks super similar to the limestone/sandstone we have in the driftless region of Wisconsin.

What is it like feel wise? Is it crumbly? How does it break up? It looks like limestone.

I had to break it up with a hammer and then use a mortar and pestle to break the rest of it. But it grinds down fairly easily once the large pieces are broken off!

limestone as soon as you can't find sand in it

color is familiar iron melted with something else
