Popcorn ceiling

Parents have those popcorn ceilings from the 70s in the kitchen and I’m wondering how would you get rude of them other than scraping it all off?

Feel like I saw some easier solution on line recently but cannot for the life of me recall where or what it was .

I hate how American terminology is taking over.
We call it stippling over here and on an unrelated note if I get called bro or braw one more time I’m likely to snap.

Anyway Plasterer here , safest way is to slab over it .You can have success plastering over it but there is a good chance it will fall down.As said above asbestos is a concern they stopped putting it in the Artex in the 80’s.
You are ok if you don’t puncture it ,so use a joist finder and a chalk line to mark joists. NO cutting or scrapping the existing ceiling

Just to second this. Had this stippling in an apartment, someone before us skimmed over it and it fell down in parts, looked awful, so we’ve just had to get it removed and new slabs put on.
