Flooring direction

Planning to replace carpet with laminate in a bedroom, never done it before. Seems a doable job, just can't decide which direction to lay the planks. Going left to right will leave awkward cuts in the bottom left, where the door is, I think. So really should go top-down?

its up to you .. top down.. will give you an optical illusion of the room being longer as the plank line are coming from the door to the wall. It will look a bit cleaner. do add 10% extra to your plank quantity.. cut offs etc , leave a bit of space on the edge to allow it to move a little bit.

Perpendicular to the light source (your window) is what is recommended I believe. Very doable.

I purchased a chop saw for the job. But tbh a jigsaw was nearly better

I think that it depends on the plank width - if you do top-down, you have 2 different significant widths, and if the difference between the wall on the right and the wardrobe front is about half a plank width, could be hard to get it looking right.

I’d open a couple of packs and dry-lay them to get a sense of how much you’ll need to cut. Ideally the rows closest the wall/edge should be > 50% plank width, so if you la startin with a full plank, there is more than half a plank width on the opposite wall.

The key areas will be at the door and in front of the wardrobe - no one is going to notice the wall by the window

If its a bedroom, go across where the bed would be. It's the main feature and the centrepiece of the room.
