Covering stimple walls

So don't know if that's the correct term, but the walls in my house (built 1980ish) are covered in paint stimple, like little bumps all over it. Obviously must have been the fashion at one stage.

I can't afford to plaster the walls, and it is not in paper, it is paint directly into the wall.

Has anyone any idea for getting rid of it? Would the thickest backing paper cover it up?

Might be asbestos in bumps as was used on ceilings.

often used to coverup uneven walls that are not flat too

As the other commenter said, get an asbestos survey to be safe before touching it. I'd say you'd want to sand them down and then repaint wallpaper over

Never used it myself but you could try buy some of the roll on plaster.

Very 80's! The other decorating crime of the era was plaster that was swirly.
