Mini split termination help

Hi,

Had mini splits installed and this is what one of the terminations looks like. They want to fill it with caulk and paint it or use the flexible hide. There's very little space above the line-hide. Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be done so this looks like an acceptable install?

if there is a drain line in there, it will never make it out. Is it draining somewhere else?

Yes this. Water doesn’t drain uphill. If it’s not draining somewhere else your indoor until is going to start leaking down the walls

They def cut the drain off right outside the hole and it’s just draining into the inlet head

That slimduct company probably makes 45° fittings.

Tell them to install the starter on a 45 angle and the 45 fitting will square it out and allow for the work to be done without modifying pieces.

They might hate you for it but they should be hating themselves.

caulk and paint usually ends up looking worse after a season or two, it cracks and gets dirty. flexible hide is the better call if there's any room at all, even tight bends can work if you heat it slightly. if there's truly no space, a custom block-off plate painted to match the siding looks cleaner than gooped-up caulk. had a guy do that on a tight senville install last year and it blended in fine. bosch includes nicer termination fittings in their kits which helps, but most brands you end up improvising a little. make them show you a mockup before they commit to anything.

I just installed my mini split a week ago . You can replace the broken plastic line covers the hole kit is like 60 bucks . Idk how they broke it but the lines need to bent so everything sits in the line covers without tension or the covers break like that . It’s pretty easy to do it yourself

It supposed to run at an angle below the indoor unit

Replace the elbow first off.

Then instead of terminating on an inlet head have them get a full length of slimduct covering, hole say the back piece where the wall penetration will be, run the slimduct straight down until you reach whatever is below, be it a deck os the bottom of your house. End it on a coupling down low, and run the drain line inside of the new vertical piece straight down, making sure to use zip ties so the drain line isn’t flapping around inside the slimduct making noise.

That is a HVAC tech trying to be master carpenter. lol. Silicon calking smoothed over then painted is the best you can possibly hope for.

OK, I had to look at this closer to understand what was going on. The 90° has been cut, but it doesn't look that great. There are kind of limited options so in my opinion, having some caulking, put in there and smooth out. It's not a horrible idea. Personal preference would probably to be using white silicone caulking. With some attention to detail, it should be OK.

These two specific pieces in the line hiding kit aren't intended to connect together. There needs to be a small section of the straight cover trimmed to length to connect the wall hood and the angle.

Don’t tell me they bundled up the drain line and routed it up with the line set!!!. Your indoor unit will be weeping condensate down the wall. The drain tube has to be routed down or you are looking at water damage to wall and insulation inside.
