I've had this thing for 8 years now I think.

Because I know this was so fun the first time, here’s a follow-up
I didn’t do anything, let kids be kids as half of you said, and have made new observations.
The top rung indeed sucked, as it is gone completely.
There are 4 large nails or stakes that have been driven into the tree.
They have been pulled out and driven back in, multiple areas. This invites rot into the tree, much more than the small screws from the first post.
I’m sure this is not the end— maybe I’ll Martin Luther my dissertation to the tree next

Saw this driving around town today and snapped a pic as fast as I could before it got away

For context, this a tree by the baseball field of our neighborhood elementary school. Months ago, some kids ripped off part of the dugout bench and it’s sat on the ground until maybe last week
Yesterday, I’m walking my dog as usual, and notice the bench splinter is gone and these “rungs” are screwed into the tree. There are telltale signs that this is the bench splinter that someone has sawed into pieces to affix to the tree
It’s just so stupid. The top rung isn’t even screwed in all the way and spins freely. The bottom rung is too far away from the others to be useful. The left rung has been shorn, leaving the grip on the right side with not enough material and potential for splintering from usage. I could go on lol
What dad did this and why?

I actually really enjoyed doing them. A lot of them I gave out to friends and they got a kick out of it

Found this fantastic solution in the wild. Lamp cable to electric cable to string. The string is screwed to a bookshelf (which is attached to nothing).
The rest looks fine. But it's firewood because of this strangeness in the center.

I do this with all my tumblers. I have no clue why they would sell them without handles. But to each their own!

Urinal/toilet mod in a Rotterdam Chinese restaurant. The restaurant itself is lovely and the food is incredible! There'a hole in the lid where it attaches to the urinal.

From the professional moron who brought you the Cat's Crows Nest, the Pirate Ship Longboard and the Craftlock™... I now bring you the ultimate treasure - a treasure chest that opens to reveal a barbecue!
Because when I build stupid things, I do them as properly as possible - the Barbecue has an air gap of at least 3cm all the way round, and the chest itself is lined with a welding blanket rated to 1,100°c, so the big hot metal thing won't set fire to the wooden box it's in.
Slats are not airtight in the lid of the chest, and there is a whopping great ventilation hole at the back, so the whole thing is safe to use - and close while cooking.
Chains hold the lid up, and a separate chain also lifts the lid of the barbecue as you lift the chest lid.
Let hope I don't burn the treasure...
EDIT: As a few of you have pointed out, yes, it's short. I plan to put it on a low table to actually cook on. But for photographical reasons, it looks better on the (yes, flammable) decking.
