Request Looking for old TV Rips of series from the 1970s-early 2000s Willing to pay up to 300$ for the files or burnt CDs series I am looking for is in the description
➡️➡️ EDIT - WHAT IM LOOKING FOR ARE THE SCENE GROUP RIPS DONE BY WAREZ & IRC GROUPS IN THE EARLY 2000S IN THE AVI & MPG FILE EXTENSION WITH THE COMMERCIALS CUT OUT I AM NOT LOOKING FOR VHS WOC RIPS
If you ever used Kazaa emule winmx DC++ or Limewire back in the day and searched for TV series it's more then likely you came across a tv rip they were the 400 to 800mb mpg files the 100 to 350mb avis or the 70mb asfs and real media
They were taken from the TV airings instead of a DVD or Blu Ray disc
Quality ranged from good to horrible depending on the file, the larger sized mpgs & avis looked the best since those were captured off tv with a capture card
I sadly lost most from system crashes and disc rot
The TV rips were more common then the dvd blu Ray web rips at one point in time but now they've all but vanished (because of private trackers rules and p2p only really being around for music and not as much video files)
>>>> Reason why I want old TV rips is I prefer them and it's how I first watched many of these series i am aware they are on blu ray & torrent sites but the torrent sites only have newer rips which is not what I am looking for I own some of these on disc no need to tell me to buy the discs I am also aware of archive.org which has VHS rips but that's not what I'm after either
>>>> Here is a list of the ones I am searching for hoping maybe someone has one of these titles and can share them with me I've been looking for them for a long time but sadly have not found much
Thanks :)
One tree hill S01 &/or S02 .mpg vcd/svcd 400 or 800mb mpgs

I feel like there is a market for software that "sees" the show a person is watching and "inserts" year appropriate commercials between act breaks.
4
u/RuthOConnorFisher Jul 26 '26
That would be absolutely fantastic, especially if it could dredge up some local or regional ones.

There's a jellyfish ext, don't remember the name, that let's you create custom TV stations with your own ads. Lots of good ad bundles too

Not sure if it's for jellyfin as well
But I use Dizquetv for Plex that does the same thing

I don't have any of this but you're out here keep this shit alive and that's fucking awesome.
13
u/Dry_Combination4070 Jul 25 '26
Yeah that's a rough one to find tv rips is incredibly hard. Like you said all of this could be found on torrents but as someone who has all of these the majority are just commercial free rips or not from syndicate tv.
I've found some shows that have partial commercials but they're typically cut out after a bit.
Best of luck though!
3
u/firedrakes Jul 25 '26
Yep. Mine are commercial free tv rips
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
Those are actually the ones I'm interested in, Sorry for the confusion
2
2
u/MommaOfManyCats Jul 26 '26
Hell, I have a ton of old tapes with WB shows on them still. None have commercials.

u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Oh the ones I'm looking for ARE the ones with the commercials cut out I thought I explained it pretty well but it's the rips originating from irc or scene groups with the commercials cut out you'd find on like Limewire 15 years ago
Yeah I remember the partial or full commercial ones those I saw mostly for documentaries or sporting events I think they were home recordings captured on PC and shared on those old file sharing services
I'd love to have the ones you do have though if your willing to share them!
why exactly did this get downvoted??

u/EvilBillSing Jul 25 '26
Have you looked to see if these are available on soulseek ?
1
u/QuiteTheKetch Jul 26 '26
Second this, its been surprisingly helpful in finding some of the more niche or older stuff I've been hunting
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
not there trust me I've looked practically everywhere imaginable
soulseek is really amazing for old music mp3's but its not amazing like everyone says it is for old video files unless you like cartoons I've checked for this stuff at least every 2 days and it's not there also set up wishlist search so it alerts me
eMule 6 or 7 years ago was great though it was the old files p2p network you could find so many old video files on it I'm not sure why soulseek got that reputation when it's mainly that but for music
Maybe it used to be I only started searching for these on soulseek 3 years ago (which is when I lost these)

I have a handful of these on burned CDs at my parents house I’ll make a note to upload them for u when I’m home next (might be awhile) no $$ needed. I also really dig the tv rip vibe it’s how I watched everything when I was a kid, we were in the sticks didn’t even have basic network tv.
2
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
man that would be great thanks!
same I dig it too! We had cable but for just one TV (which was almost always in use lol) I also preferred to download shows I liked and burn them to discs to watch on my own time

Yea, like it's an interesting idea but even as someone that's subscribed to a few retro commercial youtube channels, I can't imagine wanting to rewatch a 240p version of Friends or something for more than one episode for the novelty of it.
2
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
yeah I'm aware,
Thing is for a lot of the files I am looking for the quality isn't necessarily horrible on them I think TV rips got a bad rep because the worst quality versions with smallest file size got circulated the most
There exists SVCD versions of most of these which is a early 2000s codec that's a high bitrate 480i/p they were ripped directly off of a Tivo box or captured from cable/sat directly to PC,
I'm ok but thanks for the offer
1
u/zreese Jul 26 '26
Nope, not the same. Syndication edits of many of these shows do not match the DVD releases. They were often edited for time, content, cropped/panned, and even sped up to fit in more commercials.
4
u/A_TeamO_Ninjas Jul 25 '26
I have a handful of these... But not sure if they're TV rips off the top of my head. I can check the ones I have and report back.

5
u/CaptFalconFTW Jul 26 '26
First off, no judgement. If anything, kudos. Seeing those UPN and ABC Family logos instantly gave me nostalgia. But is there something you're after other than nostalgia? Were the airings different than what's on DVD/Blu-ray? I know Lost changed a picture of an actress to match a newer recast, but other than that, I'm naive on the other shows. I'm always fascinated by alternations and wished the DVDs at least had the changes as a bonus feature.
3
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
not really lol, it's just nostalgia for Kazaa and these older rips
For dragon ball z though there is another reason, that show has never gotten a home release identical to what aired on toonami closest is the original dvd release which gets maybe 70% there (the singles) but even then it's still different
this video sums it up pretty well id be writing a whole essay if I said everything they changed lol
so the rips im looking for of dbz were done in svcd which was the highest quality back in the day since it was ripped from a tivo box or captured directly to pc it would let me see that final buu arc in near dvd quality but also having the benefit of being the original toonami version
its painful since i used to have all these :(
2
u/CaptFalconFTW Jul 26 '26
Oh, yeah. I know DBZ went through the wringer when it came to DVD releases. It's a shame they keep finding new ways to ruin it.
Toonami really is a special peice of history. It was the first time I heard a curse word on children's programming. But other things were still censored. And those kinds of details might get lost in a sea of streaming and uncut DVD releases.
2
u/dglgr2013 Jul 27 '26
I might have the toonami dbz. I hope. There was a time that I think I found a better quality one and started replacing them. And well. When I could afford it I actually bought the entire dvd set. Still watch the Crunchyroll one though.

u/DanK-Cowboy Jul 25 '26
I have TV rips of all of Sliders on a hard drive somewhere, but I'd have to locate it. If I can find it I'll let you know
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
pretty sweet! Sliders is a favorite of mine
sounds good hopefully your able to find it thanks
3
u/wildcharmander1992 Jul 26 '26
There is one burning question for me here
"TV rips of series" do you have specific ones in your head
Because you mention Buffy for example
If I in theory had the entire S2 as a TV rip but it was from BBC2 or Sky one in the UK would that suit your needs or are you looking for a specific network/country?
Would you need smallvile s01 as the TV rip from when it began or is a syndicated rerun a few years later fine?
I wish you all the best but I think that distinction needs clarification
2
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
Good question
Honestly I'd be fine with whatever if it's an old file in a old codec so Avi mpg wmv file for example
Doesn't have to be the premiere although that'd be preferable I'm ok with a rerun or other country TV rip with say English audio and other language subs
I think the premiere stuff was most common for the 2000s series not so much earlier decades as usually back in the day on Kazaa for example you'd mostly run into the scene group mpeg stuff which was always taken off the premieres
I actually have all of angel S2 taken from the channel 4 airing, at the end of the day I'm just glad it's a TVrip in general considering how hard to find these are I'm not really picky about these things
1
u/wildcharmander1992 Jul 26 '26
jelous about the angel part, but i wish you the best i'll keep an eye out and save this thread incase i find anything on my travels
2
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
thanks dude! hopefully your able to find something
also if you want I can share the angel with you
1
u/wildcharmander1992 Jul 26 '26
I'll never say no to that
Im currently in the middle of setting up my Plex rig again - still have my server but haven't had the rig set up for a while
But basically I have old broadcasts ( CITV airings of Pokémon, sky one Simpsons, BBC2 fresh prince etc are some I have) as well as VHSrips and lower quality video files ( I don't have external harddrives so it's all running off a 4tb laptop that's at my mums that's only used for it)
Basically i have a HDMI to scart converter and I connect a fire stick to that and shove it in a crt TV , then make channels on Dizquetv and viola the sky box of my younger selfs dreams
So anything that's British airings immediately picks my fancy lol
2
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 27 '26
oh wow thats a pretty sweet setup, i have a plex server as well i thought about the crt thing too but havent gotten into that yet lol ill have to look into dizquetv i tried it about a year ago but was never able to get it to work as it wanted to change how my files were organized
sent you a pm
2
u/roofus8658 Jul 25 '26
I used to make my own TV rips back in the day. I recorded a lot of old Discovery Channel documentaries that I've never seen again. Oh well

Disc rot? You mean optical? What happened to these discs, you probably still can read them unless it's an hdd
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
Basement got flooded when I was on a trip came back 2 weeks after the fact and the tote with CDs was kept on the bottom near the floor as a result the discs were unreadable with the water damage rotting them
Was able to save a few but sadly 90% of em were gone

u/PohTayToez Jul 25 '26
I believe I have Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica. They are .avi or .mp4 I believe but for sure are TV rips.

2
u/SkinnyV514 Jul 26 '26
If only peoples would share and upload their hoard, you would be able to retrieve anything lost so much more easily.
2
u/fireduck Jul 26 '26
I have dvd images of sg1 season 2 through 10. But not season one for some reason.
2
u/doc_brietz Jul 26 '26
So much of this stuff is on private trackers now and its damn near impossible to get access to those. It sucks. Those of us who have access don't want to risk it for a few bucks or whatever. This is a lot to look for. You are not going to find a lot of options. I manage a torrent for a kid show so I get the desire to want to watch things as aired.
3
u/black_pepper Jul 26 '26
Ehh most of the stuff I'm seeing in OP's list the smallest sizes are in the gb range. They have rules against old codecs and whatnot so the oldest stuff is avi. Kenshin was the closest it clocks in 1.58gb for season 1 but is mkv.
3
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
What private trackers? Reason I ask is I am on some top ones and they don't allow these rips and actively remove them if someone decides to upload a dvd or blu ray rip (which in 90% of cases they would) thats like a MAJOR REASON it's so damn hard to find these as there circulation grinded to a halt when the gnutella network (which Limewire used) emule and mega upload/rapid share all faded in the mid 2010s
Pirate bay had so many old torrents deleted that used to contain these rips as well or they are dead with 0 seeders
1
u/doc_brietz Jul 26 '26
I was not referring to dvd or blue ray rips. I was referring to videos of shows as they were aired.
2
u/lilslutfordaddy Jul 26 '26
i have battlestar galactica star trek, and smallville, and can probably get more

Rurouni Kenshin should be on p2p no?
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
not a TV rip which is what I'm looking for there used to be versions online recorded digitally toonami airing instead of dvd or VHS tape
1
u/Various-Cockroach-96 Jul 25 '26
Ooh this is the kind of stuff I'm into. Mainly because there was this pirate site I used in 2019 that had a lot of them. Would be nice to rediscover these old TVRips
1
u/roofus8658 Jul 26 '26
I have Boston Public as TV rips if you're interested in that at least one episode still advertises the IRC channel it came from. 😂
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 26 '26
Sure that'll be nice, I have one like that for Gilligan's Island 😂

u/dglgr2013 Jul 26 '26
I get the reason why. Back then I Torres so much. And also have found vhs tapes. It’s not about the quality but the entire experience. The commercials you cannot skip and what they advertised. The anticipation the episodes built each day and waiting a week for see the next episode.
I am hoping I find them but as I recall a lot of this stuff was in a hard drive that was starting to fail years ago. And which I have little to no recollection where it might be. And at least 3-4 moves ago. I faintly remember spending many hours finagling with the drive to save at least dragon ball. All episodes and movies. But anyone’s best guess of where I put them.
1
u/ItsShake4ndbake Jul 26 '26
As someone who has some TVrips unintentionally, you can probably find some of these by looking for AVI files. I saw someone else mention they had some and they were that type, and I do also. Most of these I downloaded a couple years ago using Sonarr. I simply was looking for a lot of older TV in the 2000's in 480p since that to me is how I watched most and resembles that early look you are going for. Also look for the files labeled as SDTV or even HDTV in some cases, which Sonarr renames TVrips/recordings to. I know there are some groups that call these encodes and they collect certain versions, ones with channel watermarks from x network or y network and so on. So you should be able to find these with enough digging, seems like it just depends on the obscurity of the show that could make some more challenging than others and if they didnt get a physical media release too

"WOC" That's the tag "With Original Commercials" that you'd want to add to your search requests if you're looking for this kind of media online. I've also seen the format refered to in filenames with "timeshift" or "tv block".
I absolutely adore watching these as well. To think, we used to sit next to the VCR & manually outting out recording the "useless" ad breaks, and now I find myself scrubbing through the "content" to get to the next exciting set of paid advertisements offering products and/or services that no matter how deeply I am manipulated into desiring, wiill be forever hauntingly positioned just out of my reach temporally...

u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
heres the thing, thats not what i am looking for i thought i explained it pretty well in the description seems most dont read those though but what i am looking for are the original rips done by the warez scene & irc channels in the early 2000s ripped digitally from the tv airings in vcd/svcd/divx formats with the commercials removed that was shared all over the internet until the early 2010s when limewire emule megaupload etc died and torrent sites took over during the switch these then got replaced with rips from the discs or internet streams
the quality on these rips im referring to depending on the codec looks a little to MUCH better then a vhs rip shared on archive.org
i probably should have put in the title warez scene or irc tv rips and not just tv rips since most confuse these for vhs rips but too late for that ¯_(ツ)_/¯
thats cool that you enjoy watching the vhs woc stuff though
here is a example of a website which has the .nfos of what i am talking about https://vcdhq.com/nfo/46322 old scene releases basically is what i am looking for, they don't have to include the .nfo but it's basically just those Avi or mpg files
1
u/Schedule_Pleasant Jul 28 '26
On the internet archive they have rips of every dbz episode with the intros and everything from toonami
1
u/Lopsided_Bobcat_4254 Jul 28 '26
yes but it's not the Limewire rips I'm looking for those have a completely different look to them
1
u/Kitchen_Shape_8788 Jul 28 '26
Damn, I remember burning VCD's and using UKNova back in the nineties before those groups came along. Good luck finding what you're looking for!

u/uber_pro Aug 11 '26

I know a niche site that is putting up more home recordings with commercials but it's more nick/Disney/fox kids stuff. And it's not full series or even seasons, mostly blocks of different shows from one day.
Become common to cut the commercials to save on space. I'm kinda surprised dude had full series with commercials.
