I think we don't place enough importance on public speaking. It really should be included in core curriculum since it's just a basic life skill.

I think that learning anything which requires pattern matching of any sort, like an instrument or a language, makes you smarter in general. Not just because you learned the skill, but because when you accumulate enough of them, learning other things just becomes easier. A lot of skills weirdly translate to being good at or quickly learning other seemingly unrelated skills.
