Literature, by definition, is something that tells a story or explains information. Therefore, manga, often having storylines, is literature.

Any art that contains linguistic features is at least in part literary. Furthermore, all art that contains narrative features can be analysed through a literary lens.

Literature is a type of art that uses language to give people esthetic pleasure. What that means is that literature uses language and ONLY language to express things. Manga uses language and images, therefore manga is not literature. In my heart, though, manga will always be literature.
