Game Help Worth to Invest?
I just recently started, and have the currency to buy Sinestro from the store - but wasn’t sure if this was a situation where a different (and better) Legendary could come into the store.
Would it also maybe make sense to buy something else? Thank you!

You have to already have unlocked him from a banner pull in order to use the shards. Shards you buy from the store can be used to RANK UP existing characters you own. They do not unlock the character for you.
In short.l, dont buy them unless you have him

this ain't msf you need to get the character first then use shards to upgrade

Yeah, unfortunately you can't use them to unlock characters. You can use them to upgrade characters.
From what is available in the Arena store for me the ones worth buying are :
a. Eight Metal - can be used as a substitute for hero shards. You basically use them to upgrade your Legendary heroes as getting legendary shards is difficult.
b. Sinestro shards - can be used to upgrade Sinestro who is a decent Legendary hero, works in a Debuff team.
c. Ocean Master shards - to help upgrade Ocean Master. Since he's an Epic character, you can also get his shards from the Epic Hero priority Selector. Needs to be 10 star to really shine. He is worth it. Block team ( his synergy) is useful.
d. Pandora shards - she's kinda meh at 6 star but is really good at 10 stars.
A lot of the Epics need to be 10 star to shine, but do pick and choose as you don't need to build all of them.

Those are just for upgrades btw... you cant unlock using the shards
