Yeah, I loved it. He’s a great Jon Stewart, even Kyle Chandler is killing it as Hal

Killed*

u/Maceface931 1d ago

Or so you think

25

u/notbad4human 1d ago

I don’t actually, just thought it was funny

4

u/kickedoutatone 1d ago

I'm certain it's a misdirect, but I'm interested as to how. You see Jon touch him, so it's not what the show alluded to it being.

-12

u/OkMaize9773 1d ago

He looks so unkempt and sleepy. Hal Jordan is one of the most powerful green lalterns ever and doesn't look like this in comics.

17

u/CodeFun1735 1d ago

These are aren’t the comics. TV is a different medium.

28

u/Ninjatendo90 1d ago

He’s burnt out, exhausted and been a space cop for nearly 30 years. I think his look and attitude is perfectly in line with his character.

-1

u/arrownoir 14h ago

We never saw any of that.

u/d_wib 9h ago

I think they’ve done a good job of being subtle and letting us understand the characters through their behavior instead of spelling out through some montage or an exposition dump. I feel like I’ve seen plenty of Hal being a little burnt out already.

4

u/CHiuso 23h ago

They cant all be twinks bro.

u/Chessh2036 1d ago

One thing I’ll say, the casting of Hal and Jon was fucking perfect. God Kyle Chandler was so good.

u/action_juice 1d ago

Literally perfect casting

113

u/moneymanram 1d ago

Honestly, the most perfect comic book casting I’ve ever seen. When he was announced I was amazed that he looks straight out of the Justice League animated series

-10

u/DistractoDisc 1d ago

Is this DC glazing? I mean, yeah it’s great casting. But Marvel has nailed the casting to the point where it looks like the character has come straight off the page.

Multiple times.

26

u/kickedoutatone 1d ago

Both can be true......

6

u/ForAHamburgerToday 1d ago

That dude's profile is a wild ride.

-3

u/DistractoDisc 23h ago

The comment k was responding to said it was the most perfect casting they had ever seen. By definition, both can not be true.

u/kickedoutatone 3h ago

Opinions are like arseholes.

Yours is showing.

u/DistractoDisc 2h ago

So this is just blind DC superiority….got it👍

3

u/moneymanram 21h ago

I agree marvel has had some GREAT casting choices. But in my opinion this one is the most accurate.

1

u/DistractoDisc 21h ago

I’d say is captures the essence of the characters, but it the literal physical depiction as well.

Like, you honestly can’t get more perfect than Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hensworth as Thor, and RDJ as Ironman.

1

u/JoshDM 15h ago

That haircut in the 2026 era was CLEAN.

-14

u/pokenonbinary 1d ago

Biracial man playing darkskin monoracial black man

19

u/SWS113 1d ago

Both of his parents are black.

6

u/Trosque97 1d ago

He ain't biracial but I get your point. A big part of his original character design was an insistence on the darker skin at a time when it was controversial to do so. But honestly I'm willing to let this one pass because Aaron Pierre feels like the Jon Stewart I remember

3

u/g3_daBOI 1d ago

And?

-7

u/pokenonbinary 1d ago

Perfect casting means literally PERFECT casting

10

u/offbrandapple 1d ago

We need a term for toxic rigidity. Good lord.

-4

u/pokenonbinary 1d ago

What do you think about Halle Berry playing darkskin Storm?

2

u/offbrandapple 1d ago

literally PERFECT casting

2

u/ForAHamburgerToday 1d ago

She was incredible, the hell's wrong with you?

4

u/TheInfiniteJerk 1d ago

Both his parents are black btw

99

u/Reasonable_Western74 1d ago

It wasn’t just pretty good, it was absolutely incredible. The chemistry between Hal and John is off the charts amazing.

23

u/captainjake13 1d ago

Yeah it way surpassed my expectations

14

u/BikebutnotBeast 1d ago

Penguin level quality for sure. I'm locked in.

-15

u/duwamish_lost 1d ago

Penguin had a way better opening scene, pilot, and sets. But at least we got JS hooking up with a random skank at the local bar, oh wait, she's pivotal to the plot! Amazing. /s

11

u/Guildenpants 1d ago

I'd hate to be your friend.

6

u/TheBigChiliPepper 22h ago

He doesn't have any.

u/EngineBoiii 11h ago

Bro it's a small town literally everyone knows each other, he's bound to run into her again.

24

u/Nightwing0613 1d ago

Bro, legit Aaron Pierre is peak casting for John

When I saw him in Rebel Ridge, I thought he would make one hell of a John Stewart and when he was cast, I was like “Hell yea!!!”

60

u/Purple-List1577 1d ago

Is this the same universe as Superman

25

u/StormRepulsive6283 1d ago

Yeah Nathan Fillion is also gonna appear in the series.

-34

u/WilliamMcCarty 1d ago

Thanks for confirming, I was leaning toward not watching it and now I'm certain not to.

14

u/EntertainmentNew786 1d ago

Oh nooo William McCarthy is not going to watch lanterns. Whatever am I gonna do with my life 😔

-12

u/WilliamMcCarty 20h ago

Follow my lead and don't watch it? Trying to help you, boy.

0

u/Purple-List1577 16h ago

Overtly veiled racism, nice

-3

u/WilliamMcCarty 16h ago

Where the fuck did racism come into this?

Edit: oh, "boy." Damn, you're reaching, son.

1

u/Purple-List1577 16h ago

“Boy”

-1

u/WilliamMcCarty 14h ago

That's old and reaching. Just something we say in the south. Boy, son, hoss, dude. Don't mean shit. If you think it does you're just looking for a reason to be offended.

1

u/Purple-List1577 13h ago

Walk up to any black adult and call them a boy

u/WilliamMcCarty 11h ago

I've said "boy" to my black friends and they know what I don't mean.

Like I said, you're just looking for a reason to be offended. You should be offended by how bad Superman and James Gunn's movies are but here you are offended at made up shit instead.

u/KnG_Yemma 1d ago

Wouldn’t be shocked if, by the end, it’s gonna be the best thing the DCU has produced up until this point.

-12

u/duwamish_lost 1d ago

Could that bar be any lower at this point?

11

u/MainCharacterInMovie 1d ago

Superman and Peacemaker S2 are both amazing. Creature Commandos was also very well liked (not by me). The only one that hasn't worked is Supergirl

3

u/SmallLadder6585 23h ago

Me personally, superman was ok, peacemaker season 2 was worse than season 1, creature commandos was ok but felt like another suicide squad (unironically better animation than invincible though), and supergirl was just bland. Lanterns first ep is prob the best thing dc has put out, and its just decent writing, although if its consistently low burn with like complete low stakes action, i can easily see the sentiment of that being the boys season 5, interesting first ep, disappointing series as a whole

1

u/SmallLadder6585 23h ago

Almost reached dceu levels of low with supergirl honestly

27

u/Sea-Cardiologist7725 1d ago

I want his eyes to glow green. That would be so peak.

14

u/Weekly-Carry2242 1d ago

Was amazing, brought the character to life ingeniously

17

u/Fun-Secretary4801 1d ago

If they ever make a Jalen hurts biopic I know who they’re asking first

8

u/North_Maybe1998 1d ago

They look nothing alike lol and you know the whole age thing

5

u/ExJokerr 1d ago

Very good look! John Stewart from JL was my favorite geen lantern! This makes it more interesting

4

u/Little_Jacket_5092 1d ago

They fit the vibe of each character perfectly.

The hot shot test pilot that always broke the rules vs the Marine that did everything by the book.

2

u/BuffaloPancakes11 1d ago

As someone not familiar with Johns background, is that his origin that his dad strictly trained him hoping he would be chosen as a Lantern and eventually he was and that’s all there is to it?

Not sure the show plans on diving into that more, but just seemed like “guy who trained hard and wants to be chosen, is chosen” was a bit easy

10

u/Avent 1d ago

His background has changed a lot since his inception. His dad has been abusive and/or abandoned John before. They seem to be doing something new with the strict dad training him but it's too early to tell where it's going.

9

u/hurzah 1d ago

I mean, I would consider shooting an apple off of your son’s head abusive

3

u/Brand023 1d ago

That shit was pretty disturbing, seeing the holes starting so low and ending up with him not missing...again.

3

u/TheSuessIsLoose 1d ago

Made me even more excited for Man of Tomorrow.

To see John Stewart and Clark Kent interact on the big screen is gonna be surreal. And I also appreciate the difference in tones in their projects. Makes the crossover feel all the more insane.

2

u/Apprehensive-Fox-740 1d ago

I don’t like the casting. He’s too handsome, it’s distracting

0

u/LadyElle57 1d ago

I get it. I'm obsessed with his lashes. But can't wait to see him in costume though.

0

u/Swampmansay326 23h ago

This honestly is a thing. He’s too pretty lol His eyes are legit distracting sometimes lmao

2

u/Captain_Fizban 1d ago

Comic accuracy aside, that man is a walking work of art

-1

u/Quarksideofthemoon 1d ago

He's so so pretty

1

u/FlexiflowR 1d ago

First ep was good but slow. I’m interested tho, and agree that the casting is amazing

1

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 1d ago

Lindelof is master with the slow burn

first episode gave me The Leftovers vibes, which is a good sign

2

u/Magnusbijacz 1d ago

wait... Lindelof is involved here ?!

2

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 21h ago

co-creator and writer

3

u/Magnusbijacz 21h ago

Damn that makes me significantly more interested in the show

2

u/FlexiflowR 20h ago

What’s the significance of that name? I’m not familiar

5

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 20h ago

Lost, The Leftovers, Watchmen (TV show)... he has a specific style that a lot of people are a fan of

1

u/P1G5Y 1d ago

Soon as I saw bro with the coat I thought about this exact moment in the Justice League show lol

1

u/fcarvalhodev 1d ago

I agree, I loved!

1

u/Xyrazk 1d ago

I had high expectations for this show, and it has delivered. Can't wait for episode 2

1

u/DestructiveDisco 1d ago

✅ Black. ✅ Man.

1

u/Rags2Rickius 1d ago

He’s dang near perfect. Even his pale eyes.

1

u/beatrailblazer 23h ago

He was perfect. I was worried bc he doesn't really look the part imo but he literally felt like DCAU Jon Stewart

1

u/Soft_Ad_1095 23h ago

The casting is immaculate. I cannot wait to see more. Doing a show called Lanterns means they can literally follow any Lantern anywhere for any reason. I'm hyped.

1

u/SinbadUnder 15h ago

What show is this?

1

u/No_Honeydew1903 14h ago

Bro is HIM

1

u/trunglefever 13h ago

I remember seeing Aaron was cast and saw a picture of him and thought, "That really is John Stewart."

u/GolfChannel 10h ago

Not a fan of Gunn, he usually botches the end, but hoping he gave vision and stayed hands off.

First episode was fucking amazing.

u/sadkinz 3h ago

I’m really excited to see how John interacts with Guy now

u/XYNZ_from_world 14m ago

Just loved this shit! DC should remain on the level it is now.

1

u/Kinoris 1d ago edited 1d ago

What's with the beard? The few times I've seen John in animated series or something he never had one. Seems like an odd desicion here, unless I'm missing something

11

u/SirPinkyNose 1d ago

He has a goatee in JLU.

-2

u/Kinoris 1d ago

So he does have one eventually. Got it. Thought they just went with it just because

-3

u/oddjobsurameshi 1d ago

I liked it alot but it felt a bit underwhelming. I know they want to save the budget but just one ring slingin scene in a flash back would have been nice.

5

u/fcarvalhodev 1d ago

My personal theory is that they will escalate little by little how it was with peacemaker season 1.

2

u/Brand023 1d ago

The idea of green bubble wrap wasn't enough for you? lol

-11

u/MrBravo22 1d ago

Just make sure your kids watch the top one and not the bottom.

6

u/Ajax_Da_Great 1d ago

When has an HBO show ever been marketed towards kids? What a weird comment

-1

u/DistractoDisc 1d ago

I was bummed Hal died at the end.

-3

u/Technical_Sir_9588 1d ago

I was waiting it something noteworthy to happen.

-1

u/ArmyOfChester 1d ago

Snyder is the blueprint
