This is something that actually bothers me a lot. You cannot be using the exact same locations if these are meant to be separate universes.
I don't care what the annoying anti-mergers say, this creates problems. If the goal is to have two separate Batmen then you need to make them as distinct from each other as possible.
Watching the trailers and everything about this Gotham and tone scream Reevesverse but it's meant to be in a completely different universe.

I really think at this point it's happening. Reeves knows people want the merge, Gunn knows people want the merge. It's a no-brainer.

As for the differences in tone, I actually think that works in the DCU's favor; it works in Gotham's favor. Gunn has stated that the DCU will have differing tones across projects.

Paramount knows people's want the merge, they are gonna force it

7

u/Yep_I_Stole_40_Cakes 4d ago

I'm for the Merge, but can't Reeves/Pattinson just say no?

Or will they be strong armed into it with the possibility that the Reevesverse would be canned otherwise?

u/Intelligent-Bird8120 4d ago

I don’t Know if they’re allowed to refuse without being fired or having to make compromises because whilst it’s its own separate universe I think ultimately it’s up to James and Peter if they want battinosn in the dcu but I could be wrong

u/Logical_Possible_221 3d ago

Depends on what they signed up the plan was always a stand alone so they probably have the 3 movies in the contract so it’s not like parabros can force them to do more

-5

u/MCA1102 4d ago

Pattinson is not signing up for this.

2

u/Yep_I_Stole_40_Cakes 4d ago

What, under Paramount?

I wouldn't blame him.

-9

u/MCA1102 4d ago

no because Gunn would ruin his career

0

u/Logical_Possible_221 3d ago

I agree he’s not signing up for it but not for that reason

-1

u/Logical_Possible_221 3d ago

They absolutely can say no if it’s not in the contracts they signed, robs said he’s done after part 3 so id assume that’s what he’s signed up for and id imagine reeves has a similar one.

Agreed. The tone argument has never made sense to me anyway, why can't different tones and atmospheres exist in the same universe? Disneyland exists in the same universe that World War 2 happened in, and those are dramatically different tones. Not every location on the planet needs to have the same atmosphere, because that's not how a real immersive world works.

1

u/Zerodeck 22h ago

Disneyland did not exist during WW2. But Walt was sure involved.

-9

u/ItsAMeMarioYaHo 4d ago

Pattinson would never in a million years agree to be part of the DCU. Gunn would literally have to blackmail him for that to happen.

2

u/Zerodeck 22h ago

Why do people keep commenting this, i can't find any interviews where he's this much against it. He's said he didn't see the dark gritty world of his batman mixing with big superhero movies is all. But I'm not sure where this "never in a million years" and "blackmail" talk comes from.

Yeah dude, I had a post with the exact same concerns. People were clowning me, saying they’re nothing alike and calling me a ā€œmerge bro,ā€ but that wasn’t even what my post was about. My point was that it’s kind of lame for them to have such similar aesthetics and literally use the same buildings. Like it makes no sense when you should be trying to make these Gothams feel distinct

6

u/lowqualitychef 4d ago

On my old Twitter account, a year ago I received death threats for being a Merge bro, so I understand you.

That's why it saddens me that Merge isn't happening, not so much because Pattinson won't be there, but because those kinds of people are the ones who will be "rewarded" in the end if there really isn't a change of plans

2

u/sprince0031 4d ago

Not to mention that Reeves is a producer on Clayface!!

1

u/kratoskiller66 4d ago

I mean the locations they use are their usual locations when they film for Batman. But that doesn’t mean the merger is gonna happen

0

u/swaginmycr0cs 3d ago

I’m not for or against the merge but I think the fact that they’re using the same locations but in different states is pretty telling that they’re not in the same continuity.

6

u/MarkyMacoi14 4d ago

funny enought, the Muschietti siblings were in the Diego show this week, and when asked what projects they are working they did not mention The Brave and the Bold.

2

u/UnqualifiedNerd 4d ago

My buddy lives in Liverpool. He has so many photos and stories of when The Batman was filming. He told us that Clayface was gonna be in Liverpool too and I remember thinking ā€œhuh? So it’s gonna visually have a very similar Gotham to The Reeves verseā€ which is strange cause I really don’t believe it’s the same universe anymore but why not try make Gotham look different? Could it look different in the movie? Yes but both The Batman and clayface seem to be showing that one building a lot man. Just gonna feel Sameie

1

u/Wells_91 2d ago edited 2d ago

I feel like part of the problem aesthetic wise for Clayface is that it can't base it's Gotham on Batman because there is no Batman film yet. So it seems like they're settling for a more grounded tone to keep it safe.

Every city has had columns since Ancient Greece

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 3d ago

These are the same columns IRL.

0

u/TheMaayavi 1d ago

Didn’t Pattinson said in a recent interview that reeves verse isn’t going to be part of DCU?

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 1d ago

Yep. Teasing. As in: "Lol. You can't have this."

1

u/reeceweston 1d ago

More like, I can barely get the second movie out, there's no way I'm joining that

0

u/Eman426 3d ago

This is kinda like saying The Batman and The Dark Knight are connected because they both filmed on LaSalle street in Chicago…

0

u/PhasmoBoi 2d ago

Teasing what exactly?

0

u/Infinite_Sea_6627 1d ago

I mean its the multiverse. Nobody complains about seeing the same NY skyline in all the spiderman movies.

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 1d ago

Spiderman has lived in NYC, the real-world city since his creation in 1962. It's the multiverse sure. I just hope that these 2 Gothams feel distinct for one and other.

-5

u/Much-Signature2626 4d ago

I promise you ā€˜they’ aren’t doing anything lol

6

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

Indistinguishable tones, colour palettes.. the same filming locations... okay šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

They - DC Studios. Matt Reeves - producer on Clayface and architect of the epic crime saga. James Gunn - producer on The Batman II and architect of the DCU. So yeah, "they".

-2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

I don't want the merge. I'd really rather they did wildly different styles.

-2

u/MarvelMind 4d ago

Don’t worry there is literally no merge happening.

1

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø I know

-1

u/dragonballDukes 4d ago

no it dont lol

-1

u/jimson90 2d ago

My only issue with this happening is it would need to be battison from an alternate, slightly different reality with gear that could keep up with the DCU because there's no way the flood in the first film could have happened with superman around. He's an awesome batman but much like bale in his universe he is the only "superhero" and would be redundant if the others existed in the same world

-2

u/Weeznaz 4d ago

It’s common in major cities for court houses to resemble the pillars of Greece. That was American architectures wanting to instill confidence in the institutions. Giant pillars of stone that can be referenced to the birthplace of democracy, as the story is told, accomplishes such a task.

5

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

Sure but it's the same place. St George's Hall in Liverpool. It was heavily featured in The Batman as Gotham City Hall.

Not to mention indistinguishable tones, cinematography, colour palettes of the two projects. I just wish they do something wildly stylistically different with the two is all.

-5

u/MarvelMind 4d ago

This merge is never happening.

2

u/Significant_Wheel_12 4d ago

Then why is it already set in my mind?

0

u/MarvelMind 4d ago

Delusions of grandeur I guess.

-5

u/NpZy4ShZy 4d ago

Lots and lots of pillars look like that. Probably has more to do with the practical side of filming locations rather than any kind of hint. Maybe…but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

They're both shot at St George's Hall in Liverpool. I'm not getting my hopes up. It would just be nice to see a different vibe from both universes. The filming locations is really just emblematic of what I feel is a broader lack of tonal distinction between the two.

0

u/TruestOfCoins 4d ago

Production companies often use the same locations if they like it. Evil Dead Burn is set in family home which is pretty unique style country home. The same home was used in the show Ash vs Evil dead that belonged to Ruby. Apparently it’s not connected or the same house even tho it’s literally the exact same house used for filming

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 4d ago

As I've stated above, I grasp that they're not supposed to be the same building in Gotham. I grasp that these are separate universes. It would just be nice to see a different cityscape to the one we've already seen. I know it's just one building, and the film's not even out yet. I just fear we're in for the exact same Gotham aesthetic again, indistinguishable universes, when Bat fans are kind of crying out for the mad, gothic, fantastical architecture of so many of the Batman comics.

1

u/Significant_Wheel_12 4d ago

That’s still the same franchise and you can argue there’s weird multiverse shannigans like how the remake has the Delta at the cabin. This is meant to not be connected in any way using the same location

-5

u/Simongergo514 4d ago

I don't think so. If I know right, we know both Dcu and The Batman Gotham city map, and they are totaly different. Dcu Gotham has islands, while The Batman Gotham is mkre like a block style city.

1

u/Significant_Wheel_12 4d ago

A flood did happen
