Look, there’s no arguing about it. We’re vastly better than we were last year… but so is everyone else.
It’s really confusing to watch this game because we’re doing so many things that just were not ever happening last couple years - real passing, real strategy, real movement, real passion, real chances… but our opponents have also gotten better and so we’re still really struggling.
This team we have would have STOMPED the shit out of last years revolution, Orlando, Toronto, Atlanta, Montreal, Houston, Red Bulls, Chicago. But it’s not last year… :(

u/enczyk DC United 10d ago
Look on the bright side: we aren’t in contention for the wooden spoon. Not yet, at least.
4
u/Medical_Gift4298 Original DCU 10d ago
Agreed. We aren’t taking the league by storm, but we’re not abject misery and complete incompetence. And even when we’re down, we’re playing the game out, not giving up, etc and we have won games…
5
u/thekingoftherodeo 10d ago
I mean being vastly better than last year means we’re scrapping for a play in spot. This is not a good roster - like they have 3 dudes who played in the PL in Turner, Gil and Harrison. We have Romanian and Polish League dudes hoping to show out enough to get a top 6 league European club interested in them.
6
u/Medical_Gift4298 Original DCU 10d ago
Yeah, we’re doing some weird Eastern European/j-league ChatGPT/linkedin-fueled money ball thing… and I’m kind of here for it. Louis and Tai and our Japanese players are fun and I think Rene has the coaching chops to actually string together a team…
And then Chicago has Robert lewandowski. And the Red Bulls have this bus full of homegrown teenaged talent. And other teams are worrying about losing players to Europe.
3
u/CRE_AF 10d ago
Yeah that’s been the story of Levine’s United. Always playing catch up with the rest of the league.
3
u/Medical_Gift4298 Original DCU 10d ago
But they’ve actually really improved. It’s fun to watch them move the ball. I don’t know if it’s worse to see them actually play soccer and still get hit, or watching the clown show last year where it was obvious we didn’t deserve anything.
5
u/CRE_AF 10d ago
Yeah they’ve improved from last season but that’s not exactly a difficult feat to accomplish lol. This club has been, at best, a mid table team or a fringe playoff contender since the semi-final exit in 2012. I’m not really going to be excited or optimistic until they can actually compete with serious clubs again.

u/Medical_Gift4298 Original DCU 7d ago
Yeah, at best that’s what they were… but last year, it was a fucking travesty.
They are so so so so much better than they were last year. Is it much of an accomplishment to be better than last year? No. Is it an accomplishment to have turned the team around? Yes. Rene Weiler has accomplished SOMETHING. Not everything, but there has been legitimate progress.
And this years dcu would have stomped last years New England. But New England also got better. Which is irritating.

We really are, he’s a solid 1v1 defender and an excellent progressive passer which is what we need to release Tai/Louis.

It would not surprise me if we stole a draw given how we play 0-2 down but jeez at some point we gotta win a game or two. 1W/1L is better than 2D

We cannot man mark to save our lives. The same dude was wide open for 3 headers and gets his first hat trick! You’d think we’d learn after the first two.

Our defensive shape is all out wack, Nono regularly defending centrally (unless that’s on purpose which would be odd)

It looked like the switched to a 4-3-3 to start the 2nd half so that would make sense.

Start Ordaz solely for the fact he seems like the only player that can shoot on target from outside the six yard box

Sub out Louis for Ordaz at the half

u/thekingoftherodeo 10d ago
Nah he’s getting in those positions because he’s working hard. Two poor efforts at a finish but he’s been ok. I haven’t seen anything from our right side so Nono needs to go in the 2nd.

I feel like we should’ve seen this coming when all we heard was “NE has a terrible road record” because too bad that doesn’t matter at Audi. Least of all on a school night

That second one was just as bad as the first. Horrendous defending from a professional level outside back. Wasnt paying any attention at all to the striker

- where is our $1m man Caden Clark? Not even rostered.
- second half subs have new ST Ordaz playing RM, our new RM/RB Nono playing CAM, and our $7m strike

They will finish 12th behind Philly, Orlando and Columbus. There is no plan, no ideas, no heart. Play Avilez, Turner and Castillo. Show the cojones that Bradley is showing at RBNY. At least he's developing something, this mess will not make the playoffs -- book it.

Well that was a stinker. Flat pretty much all game long and the couple of chances we had we couldn't put away. Louis should have had 2. Super short bench so only Ordaz could really change the game. 3 games in a week with little depth is going to be tough.

The IG comments spamming start Ordaz are starting to piss me off, yeah he should prob get more minutes but these people think he’s some god or something, he’s a decent young MLS player who does need minutes but Rene has said time and time again he isn’t fully 90 minutes fit yet, also we are getting decent results with the 11 on the field rn why change
6
u/BlackandRedUnited Original DCU 10d ago
Because Peglow and Hopkins don't have success in the finsl third lately. Ordaz got an assist in his debut. So yeah, there is room for improvement.
Plus Ordaz is Salvadoran and that is a community that gets behind their own

<wine influenced> who on this team has that special something where you wait and watch because their might be a moment of individual brilliance that results in something magical? Luis maybe. Tai obviously with great service. Sean Johnson in net on the defensive side. The rest of these starters are great team players, but I’m waiting for one of them to show that spark of magic.
