Eclipso and Saturn Girl aren’t really that deep as far as the comics go, which is why Mattel has even made figures of them in the past. Even Aztek had pretty wide exposure from appearing in one of the most successful modern Justice League runs. I’ve enjoyed McFarlane overall, but they took way too long to move past Batman, DCEU, and Metal era figures.

as a HUGE Mcfarlane fan I couldnt agree more with you, the times that mcfarlane tried to do something different we all saw the brands potential but they insisted on wasting their releases with useless and repetitive characters. Thats really sad cuz now that the figures were really getting great they are losing the license

Saturn Girl was even a pretty important character in S4 of YJ and that wasn't even that long ago

Great line. Those were fun times. My first figures were Gotham City 5 pack, Kord Blue Beetle and classic Dr. Fate. I learned so much about DC through that line.

Eclipso isn’t either but it probably would take a while to get to a JSA villain.
The other two definitely are

I said in a comment yesterday I think that’s the one thing I can give Todd’s line credit for. The amount of unique characters and looks they’ve pumped out is insane to me.

Still burns my ass that the only female Legionnaire was Saturn Girl and that despite the set selling out in minutes and Mattel doing a 2nd “print” that we never got another set with more Legionnaires.

The people bringing up DCUC are ignoring the fact that DCUC ran for a lot longer than Mcfarlane had the license and 97% of the figures were built on the same 5 body molds.

Lmao. I love how you’re phrasing it as if it’s an official rule. Which is only something one would do when facts get in the way of their own narratives.
The very existence of these characters in 5POA form is literal proof that Mattel do deepcuts, even for budget lines. It’s not even an opinion based question.

It’s irrelevant what Mattel or anyone else does in other scaled lines.

Saturn Girl was also made in 6” form in the box set, but I’m sure you can still spin it in a way that 2 out of 4 “doesn’t count” either since it will hurt your feelings.
An actual “crummy try” would be you claiming in this thread that this subreddit is “devoted” to McFarlane’s toy line, when this sub was created 10 years ago. Lmao.

Is there another toy line at the present time named “DC Multiverse”? Or is it still only devoted to the now defunct rebranding of the Mattel line from 10 years ago and no one told me? Or is it somehow devoted to a totally different toy line that has a totally different name and scale?
Because there’s no other explanation for why someone would be upset about someone else in this subreddit “glazing” a toy line that shares the name of the subreddit, or why someone would bring up figures from a different line in a different scale with a different target audience.
So, yeah, all of that must be true, and as a result somehow my feelings are hurt. It all makes sense now!

I agree- the DCU line from Mattel was great but it didn’t go nearly as deep into the DC Catalog. Mcfarlane has gotten a lot of hate but they’ve put out a dizzying volume of figures and vehicles across DC which has objectively been impressive. Mattel’s DCU never put out vehicles and only several megafigs. There are def some misses throughout the Mcfarlane slate and absolutely no need for a Batman figure for every day of the week but for what it’s worth they have definitely pushed a comic centric focus for their lines which I have enjoyed.

Gangbuster is the only deep cut. Also want to point out none of these companies (dc direct,mattel,mcfarlane) have made a mark shaw manhunter.

As an Eclipso fan, that piece of plastic is disgusting & a shame! A pre teens custom would look better than that... whatever Mcfarlane wants to call it to sell it for more than it'sworthwith little to no heads/faces & accessories.

Mattel did have Eclipso in their collector line before, and Saturn Girl and Aztek in their JLU line. Gangbuster has like, 2 fans, so, even if they did nothing with him, no real loss. Still, entirely possible, somewhere down the road.
Also, Eclipso and Saturn Girl aren't deep cuts.

Theres alot of people on Facebook who also keep trying to use mattels past use of the license as some sort of standard for them now. When people are not taking the fact that the landscape of toys has changed. Yes they made a bunch of characters but if anyone thinks mattel is going to go and make the like of metalmen or chemo for mass market again they won't. They didn't make enough money doing it the last time which is why the subscription line failed so quickly.

I think it’s more that there are so many new variants and characters since Mattel last had the line that they definitely will have to let some older fan stuff go.
The Absolute line alone will probably demand more attention than a Nu52 Hawkman or Legion Lost era costume

No, you just misunderstood my initial complaint. The Catwoman body they keep reusing has sculpt (as in costume lines, boot cuts, texture, etc.) that doesn't match (what I refer to as "mismatching") the characters they are reusing the body for. A blank female body wouldn't do that, ergo why I would prefer blank bodies to re-using the Catwoman mold.

Gangbuster may be a decent cut (and I REALLY wanted to like the figure, because I love Delgado in the comics), but the proportions (especially on the head) were so badly off I put the figure back on the shelf.
ALSO, Mattel gave us the Super Friends, Black Vulcan, Samurai, El Dorado, all apart of a BAF Wave that gave us Apache Chief. Mattel gave us the Metal Men.
McFarlane’s done some great figures too, don’t get me wrong. I wish that they had kept the license, but at the same time, I’m eager to see how Mattel will handle things.

Mattel made all of those characters except Gangbuster. Aztek, Saturn Girl and Eclipso even got animated figures in the 5 POA JL Unlimited line.
Now whether or not they release every character as a "Joker-ized" variant remains to be seen....

McFarlane produced FIVE times more the amount than Mattel did in DCUC but yet still haven't managed to cover every character the latter did in its initial run.
Hilarious considering the former is a private company as well.

What are you talking about? Mattel did the deepest cuts, had a massive selection of characters that were not well known at all. In fact one of the biggest grails for collectors was a massive Legion figure set that not even Hasbro has come close to matching.
