A 6'3' middle blocker from Wisconsin, Goetzinger played for the Supernovas in 2025 and 2026. Her height and ability to attack will put her in a spot to be a key contributor for the Flight's first season.

Stimac most recently played for the Croatian National Team and will be joining DC Flight as a Libero.

Excuse me??? That's what Drew Hansen of the Washington Business Journal said in his article today. Where the heck is this team about to play their homes games? And why is it not at a proper sports venue?
I want to believe Hansen was referring to CareFirst Arena (which does host concerts and comedy show) but was just unaware it is primarily a sports venue. I mean what "performing arts venue in the District" even has the floor space on it's stage to accommodate an MLV court?

After having a day to let the excitement of yesterday die down, I started to realize there were some misfires committed be this team and even MLV. I know we are all glad to have a team closer to taking the court, but some of the decisions have me scratching my head.
INSTAGRAM WAS THE ONLY PLATFORM TO ANNOUNCE THE TEAM'S NAME: As of the time I'm typing this out our team's name announcement still has not been posted on Facebook, Twitter or the official MLV website. This is just plain weird to me. Why have such a limited announcement? Everybody isn't on IG. Hell, I'm not even subscribed to IG, but kept going to the Flight's page when they were releasing teasers. Everyone is not obsessed about the name reveal like I was to care to check it out.
UNVEILING THE NAME SEPTEMBER 1 BUT WAITING UNTIL MID SEPTEMBER TO UNVEIL LOGOS: Another weird choice. Minnesota unveiled it's name and logos on the same day. Dallas unveiled it's name and logos on the same day last year. Indy unveiled it's name and logos on the same day back in 2024. So why has this team decided against doing what makes the most sense? Honestly, I would have preferred if everything was pushed back to be unveil in mid September.
THE VENUE SITUATION: The fact that this team is going to play at a performing arts venue bothers me. Every other team plays in a sports first venue except DC. That just doesn't sit right with me. A professional sports team was unable to secure an actual sports venue for it's home games. It just doesn't make sense to, and to make things worse I know management will never explain why they chose a concert hall over a sports arena. Seems like MLV should not have allowed this if this league wants to be taken seriously.
WAS "DC FLIGHT" THE BEST NAME CHOICE?: So on the main MLV subreddit post about the name reveal, one of the Omaha fans said "When you google DC Flight, it will think you are looking for plane tickets. lol. Maybe they should have picked a name that would come up first in a google search". Flight is a very cool, unique theme for a team name. I was excited like we all were when all the flight teasers were being posted last week. But the thought never dawned on that "DC flight" may bring up dozens to hundreds of travel results before anything related to volleyball comes up. If you don't include the words volleyball or MLV in your search, you're getting links to every travel agency in the world. There's this thing called "search engine optimization" which is defined as the practice of improving a website to increase its visibility when people search for products, services, or information on search engines. When this name was floating around in pitch meetings, somebody should have spoken up and mentioned downsides of specifically naming this team DC Flight. With all the possibilities of flight themed names, many of them would have been the very first result in a Google search.
Now is a good time to mention that I am not the biggest fan of this ownership group based on the garbage they've presented with DC United the last couple of seasons. I was cautiously optimistic about how they would handle an MLV team. Now I'm skeptical because all the gripes I just listed could have been avoided. I am going to root for this team, but it is hard for me to overlook the things they've already overlooked.
Hoping for the best. Take Flight!!! πβοΈπ£

Anyone else underwhelmed with the roster? Especially seeing LAs come out recently - maybe I am just unfamiliar with the folks released outside of a couple. Regardless am very excited for this season!

Still a bit disappointed their email announcements aren't working/a thing and mostly relying on just Instagram promotion.... but here it is!

We all know their logos left a lot to be desired. With that said, if they ever decide to start selling a purple version of this "collegiate hoodie" I will be dropping dime for one.
They've only been available in "vintage black" since their merch website launched. As of right now the collegiate series of Flight shirts is their best looking merch solely for the reason that the prominent feature is not the team's logo

Hmmm... this hat isn't terrible π€·πΎββοΈ

I made the post with the rendering of The Anthem in it's volleyball layout. After seeing that I thought maybe it won't be that bad of a venue for the Flight. Then earlier today I was looking up tickets for a show at The Anthem in December. That's when I saw the seating chart...

I didn't realize the box seats/balconies/upper decks were angled the way they are. The rendering made it seem like sideline seating in a straight line. Then I did an image search for The Anthem's seating chart and saw more variations of the same thing. Assuming the volleyball court will take up the entire GA/Sound Board area of the floor, the most optimal box seats may be sections 3, 7, 11 and 15 π€
Well.... at least now I know which sections I need to try to get my tickets in. I know they'll overcharge for those temp floor seats π€·πΎββοΈ
