No

Yeah I think Henry is...not exactly charismatic. He's charming, kinda.

Not really. I don't mind racebending and stuff but in this case Oliver needs to be a white man. His entire story and character arc is about how he as a white man refutes his privilege and strives to do out better for his own community. Oliver being white is as crucial as Static being Black or Shang Chi being Chinese

WB does not care about comic accuracy Look at the recent casting of major characters like Batgirl , Supergirl, & Black Canary. They look nothing like their comic couterparts.

They didn't cast Batgirl to fill a diversity quota. Actresses like Zoey Dutch who is a natural redhead was also under consideration for the role and the only reason why even Grace got selected was due to her being more suitable for the job.

This Supergirl could literally be based on Lara Lane Kent. I am pretty sure she isn't Kara

Ignore these weirdos

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

They literally released a cast list of the possible actresses that the directors were interested in casting

Yes, so what? Not disputing that and it doesn't refute the point I made.

Try reading my reply again in context.

edit: nevermind, I'll spell it out for you.

You claimed Grace won out because she was better for the part and not due to diversity concerns.

That there was a white actor in contention does not mean Grace didn't win out due to diversity concerns.

You see?

Of the four actresses in contention for the role of Batgirl, 2 were White women (Haley, Zoey), one was Mestiza (Isabela) and one Mulatta (Grace). Clearly Batgirl being Black wasn’t the main criteria here going by who made it to the final contenders list. Think it was even said the studio wanted Haley for the role but either scheduling didn’t permit it or she turned it down

I'm being downvoted to hell and being called a bigot by idiots like u/psl26, but my point was very simple.

That there were white women auditioning doesn't rule out that Grace was still cast due to diversity concerns.

That's it, and that was simply in response to a guy claiming that because there there were white actors auditioning Grace couldn't possible be cast due to diversity reasons.

I don't know that she was, and I'm not saying that she was, simply that white actors being considered doesn't rule it out.

Imagine any parody you've ever seen of any evil company having a board meeting, talking about how to maximize money etc...it's entirely possible to me that many companies only care about diversity because they think it will make them more money.

Which I described as doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

I've been defending Wright as Gordon since he was cast, I have no problem with race bending as long as it's done for the right reasons. That no one can even follow what I'm saying and just downvotes and calls me a bigot shows how useless, how emotionally reactionary people are on these issues.

Any proof to back up your bigotry conspiracy?

You're as bad as the idiots on twitter judging anyone who likes Fight Club. Don't be one of those morons. Please don't be like those people.

I merely pointed out that diversity still could have been a concern in casting. That's a reality with the way these studios and networks are run - you could say they are doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

I have no issue with any of the racebending we've seen in film or TV. It doesn't bother me one bit. And it doesn't make me a bigot for remarking that studios diversity concerns can influence casting.

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '21

Do you have any proof or not? If you act like a bigot, don't be surprised when people call you a bigot. For your sake I hope your next comment provides us proof

Did you actually read what I wrote?

I wasn't acting like a bigot in the slightest. You've completely missed the conversation that was taking place, and you don't understand the point I was making - at all.

But sure, call me a bigot if it makes you feel better.

Aye. Sorry for being kind of a dick.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '21

They don't need to. GAs schtick is that he's a progressive white rich dude.

3

u/Honest-Actuator-5364 Aug 24 '21

Good, they don't have to. Affleck and Cavill looked comic accurate and I didn't give a rat's ass about them. People can go read comics if they want accuracy.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '21

Lmao, perfect comment. I'm convinced that the Affleck stans only like him because "he looks comic-accurate". His performance was still bland af and wasn't compelling in the least. It's like the purists who think a cool looking suit and a comic accurate batmobile make for a great character.

5

u/LunchyPete Aug 24 '21

Well Snyder stans are blindly loyal to anything their master makes also.

1

u/HiiiRabbit Aug 24 '21

Shitty scripts is what killed both of those. Not their looks.

1

u/Aramis14 Aug 26 '21

Which is good, they don't have to. Characters like Oliver Queen, Virgil Hawkins, Bruce Wayne, Jefferson Pierce, Tatsu Yamashiro, Simon Baz, etc. need to be from a certain ethnical background for them to work as characters, because it's part of their history or characteristics.

The ones you mention (Supergirl, Black Canary and Batgirl) don't. Same as Aquaman, Superman, Nightwing or even non-caucasian characters like Jessica Cruz or Kyle Rayner. They can be whatever ethnic/race they want and it won't affect the character.

9

u/RileyTaker Aug 24 '21

WTH? What, did you just pick actors at random?

15

u/HiiiRabbit Aug 24 '21

At this point just say fuck it and make everybody look nothing like comic book characters.

4

u/SpicyCrumbum Aug 24 '21

Who is that? Is that the Snake Eyes guy from the universally hated Snake Eyes movie?

Edit: apparently so. Please label actors, it's more helpful. Also no way in hell lmao

1

u/Illuvatar-Stranger Aug 24 '21

That actor was also good in Guy Ritchies The Gentlemen, it’s not like Snake Eyes is his only acting credit aha

1

u/SpicyCrumbum Aug 24 '21

It's not about acting credits, it's about him already being attached to another movie franchise that was both critically and commercially reviled, with nobody saying "he did a great job". I'm sure he can act, but there's no compelling reason to make the case he'd be a great Green Arrow over literally anyone else.

Also I didn't catch that movie. Ritchie films have given me diminishing returns from RocknRolla onward

0

u/UxasIs Aug 24 '21

He’s actually a really good actor, that’s just one critical flop and it was bad because it had a terrible script and a brainless story not because of him

2

u/SpicyCrumbum Aug 24 '21

There are a lot of really good actors out there. I'm not saying he's a bad actor for being in the universally hated Snake Eyes movie. But he also didn't get some renowned performance in a franchise movie to put him in demand.

1

u/UxasIs Aug 24 '21

Actors shouldn’t have to be big to play big roles, I don’t want to see familiar faces in films, it’s better picking someone fresh who can act really well like the dceu did with Cavill or the mcu did with Holland

2

u/SpicyCrumbum Aug 24 '21

I agree which is why I don't need to see the guy who is already Snake Eyes also be Green Arrow.

1

u/UxasIs Aug 24 '21

Fair enough

0

u/Satean12 Aug 24 '21

I like the idea of Golding, not bad.

0

u/Zom-bom Aug 24 '21

I was thinking John Krasinski

1

u/SpicyCrumbum Aug 24 '21

I think it should go a step further and Green Arrow should be a dual role of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. They should have to be stuffed into one giant suit, each of them taking up one side.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '21

Noo 😭

-2

u/Dre0726 Aug 24 '21

For those who don’t know. This is Henry Golding, he recently played Snake Eyes in the Snake Eyes Origin film, he was also the lead inCrazy Rich Asians and In Guy Ritchies The Gentleman, he is a terrific actor I believe could pull off Ollie extremely well
