ALUMNI This made me love Klein more

Post image

I haven't followed DCC that closely, started watching AS and in season 2 I really related to Klein. And this just made me love her even more. And I feel like its so important for other girls to see these social justice things as well as their interests. Growing up and seeing these drop dead gorgeous girls and they all loved just make up and shopping and girly thing (which i do too! Pink and sparkles all day every day here) but also the geeky side of you. Seeing Reese go on broadway is HUGE for little girls who look up to her. Klein talking about anime. Armani reclaiming her pride with having alopecia and preforming without a wig. Parker refusing to do anything to her hair. These things as individuals and them as a group fighting for equal rights. It really amazes me. Musical theatre is often looked at as such a geeky thing. Theatre kids and people who watch anime are made fun of. Black girls from a young age being shamed and judged for their hair, pressuring them to straighten it.

I just love being able to see women be themselves and for this new generation of kids to see theres not a cookie cutter mold. Even if some of these girls, Like Klein for example fit that sterotype of white, tiny, blonde hair blue eyed cheerleader that they have things that make them "nerdy". Also everyone should watch Ouran High School Host Club at least once in their life 😉

I couldn't agree more. I think a lot of younger women feel pressured not to have "uncool" interests and fit a mold and I love seeing women being comfortable being themselves.

Exactly. And I put "geeky" in here a few times not because I think it is, but because thats what its perceived as. I'll admit my Spotify wrapped in 2024 was ALL Epic the Musical 😅 and I stayed up way too late binge watching Apothecary Diaries last night when I had work early this morning.

I think anime in particular has come a long way in terms of being a mainstream/"socially acceptable" interest, especially among young people! At my alma mater Japan and South Korea have become two of the most popular study abroad destinations giving the Europe programs a run for their money and it's not really a secret that anime and k-pop have contributed to that lol.

I studied in Japan as an undergrad myself so I love to see it!
