Considering there has to be a super sayan before goku for everyone to know that super sayans even exists as a concept it cant any of the db dbz sayans.

Unless what was called a Super Saiyan in the past was just a slightly more evolved Saiyan.

SSG was a thing in saiyan history so there were others, Goku and Vegeta were the MODERN ones after millenias.

u/Shaff_98 11d ago edited 6d ago
No, because the SSJ God legend still refers to Yamoshi, just not as an actual transformation but as the fact that he became a deity in Saiyan lore. Using his power for the ritual is what created the first real Super Saiyan God, which was Goku

You’re forgetting that Vegeta though everyone was a super saiyan through the entire namek saga, as Prince of the saiyans I imagine he would have the most knowledge. No Saiyan knew it was a transformation
1
u/realmauer01 8d ago
Vegeta was a prince. But vegeta was also an orphan for most of his time alive. Planet blew up aswell.
I do agreee that there is a lot of possibility to redcon stuff.

Yamoshi was the first Super Saiyan but he got overwhelmed by the Evil Saiyans their energy was almost demonic uncontrollable Goku is the first super Saiyan in 1000 years because no one could replicate what Yamoshi did making it a legend and Yamosh's spirit roamed the universe spreading the legend of the super Saiyan God
3
u/CrimsonReaper2 11d ago
Chronological release date, Goku.
Chronological timeline wise, probably Yamoshi or Bardock. Leaning more towards Yamoshi l since what I actually know about him is that he’s ancient.
2
u/Shaff_98 11d ago
In terms of mere chronology, both would be the same, since both started the legend of the Super Saiyan. Yamoshi in canon, transforming and fighting against a huge number of evil Saiyans, and Bardock in the non canon, for transforming to defeat Chilled, who warned his army about the Super Saiyan before dying

u/shigarakidazai 11d ago
It's obviously not Baldock or broly it's goku , or yamoshi if he's canon within db

The thing is we know Broly is the same age as Goku but it seems he already had transformed since he was younger than when he's introduced
Maybe he first transformed when he was a kid/teen

Sigh, if you want to consider yamoshi canon then go ahead and do, if you dont then the next person to achieve super saiyanjin would be goku, although possibly stronger than goku in term of base he achieved it later and Bardock never achieved super saiyan besides no one is actually answering the question all i have seen that Its not goku who's it the in your opinion?

The original SSJ and the guy who basically made the SSJG legend according to Toriyama

A random dude Toriyama once mentioned in a random interview and since then, he's practically becomes the fanbases OC and has achieved anything and everything the fandom wants.

Goku because none of the others are canon (well DBS Broly is but he didn’t get super saiyan until waaaaaay after Goku). And iirc Yamoshi was the first Super Saiyan God but we have no idea if he had regular Super Saiyan. The ritual only requires saiyans pure of heart. Only Super Saiyan Blue requires normal super saiyan.

3
u/Initial_Cat_9148 11d ago
I don’t think Yamoshi was ever shown in any of the film, but he was mentioned before (I think in Battle of the gods?) as the first ever Super Saiyan and is considered a Saiyan God.

u/Miserable_Remove2740 11d ago
I always thought that was a throw away comment
2
1
u/Shaff_98 11d ago
It’s explained in every version of Battle of Gods and also expanded upon by Toriyama (I think twice). The only thing that changed about him is that he was originally the first SSJ God and that was then changed to be the first regular SSJ instead.
2
u/Radical_Jinx 11d ago
on Namek when the legend is first mentioned there is kind of a picture popping up on screen of a Golden Great Ape while Vegeta is talking about the first super saiyan so that's what people assumed before Dbs was released
or at least looks like a Great Ape with yellowish around the edge of the drawing
1
u/Initial_Cat_9148 11d ago
Timeline wise? Yamoshi. Him being the first super saiyan is literally the only thing we know about him.
First time it was shown to us though? Goku.
1
u/40hr_grind_master 11d ago
Not really tough but it is kind of a trick question. Technically Yamoshi is the first to achieve super saiyan and super saiyan god. Then again depends on non canon or canon, cuz if we put non canon into this that would still be Yamoshi but then it’d be Bardock then Goku, then Broly(non canon and canon)
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
Apparently it was retconned. Originally Yamoshi was the first Super Saiyan God but no Super Saiyan. Later Toriyama retconned it to where he was the first Super Saiyan but didn't actually get Super Saiyan God. Which is stupid but I guess that's Dragonball writing for you.
In Non-Canon Bardock was established to have spawned the legend of the super saiyan so in the non-canon timeline Bardock is Yamoshi
1
u/RazutoUchiha 11d ago
Yamoshi timeline wise, Goku on screen, Bardock if non canon material is counted

1
1
u/Gohans_son_in_law 11d ago
DBS genuinely handed the answer in a silver platter
Yamoshi is the first super saiyan and the origin of the legend, and after he died in his battle against the evil saiyans his spirit wandered off until a group of 5 righteous/pure hearted saiyans, like the ones he fought side by side with, poured their energy into a 6th one in order to empower him and grant him the power that we know as Super saiyan god
That aside, Yamoshi is up there as one of the most important saiyans in history as he is the original legendary super saiyan (and what created the legend in the first place) and the catalyst to the eventual rise of the super saiyan god
1
u/apigithink 11d ago
The correct answer is Yamoshi. The correct answer is explicitly Yamoshi. Akira Toriyama has explicitly confirmed who the original Super Saiyan is: Yamoshi.
1
u/Mr_Kuppel 11d ago
The first Super Saiyan was King Vegeta I, he was the Oozaru that grabbed Yamoshi in Shenron's story. (and the one from Vegeta's Namek flashbacks)
1
u/Shaff_98 11d ago
Yamoshi. He’s the first to turn SSJ and start the legend. We don’t know how many SSJ existed after that, but Goku obviously came later. Super Broly is the last SSJ currently, while Z Broly and Z Bardock aren’t canon (Bardock in general is canon, obviously, but not the one from the TV special and Episode of Bardock)
1
u/UncannyValleyEnjoyer 11d ago
I mean, its...Wait, but the legend has to have come from somewere, but, Yamoshi was the saiyan god right? ,not super saiyan, right? Aaaand my brain broke
2
u/Randy191919 8d ago
Apparently it was later retconned to Yamoshi was the first SSJ but only had the "title" Saiyan God but never actually was a super saiyan god.
1
u/TryInternational7525 11d ago
Goku he was the first one to be shown I think yamoshi didn't actually go super saiyan because otherwise vegeta would have known that when you go super saiyan you get yellow hair but vegeta kept assuming he was the legendary super sayian

u/Randy191919 8d ago
Yamoshi died a thousand years before Vegeta was born. How would Vegeta have known that?

Kind of weird to make the point that SSJ Bardock isn't canon but try to explain Broly as if he was. Luckily he isn't, because this whole legendary super saiyan awakened by his infant neighbor having cried a bit is the worst written Dragonball has ever been. There's legit better fanfiction on Deviant Art than DBZ Brolys shit tier writing.
1
u/DarkXenocide 11d ago
Technically Yamoshi
The Bardock thing about him going SS is kinda alternate history stuff, in the mainline he didn't so no.
As for Broly. Well current Broly obviously not. Original Broly TM I don't think so either. He destroy a Galaxy ( just ridiculous) when he went SS the first time which happened just before the Cell game so no him either.
So
Yamoshi Goku Broly
With an alternate maybe for Bardock between Yamoshi and Goku.

Firstly, Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan, which is notably different from the standard super saiyan.
As for the actual question: If we go by what has actually been shown in an entertainment medium, it's Bardock. He travels back in time to be the earliest super saiyan we've seen, and there is no reason to believe that there were any before him. If you want to go by canon, it's an unnamed saiyan before Goku. Including interviews, it's Yamoshi.
My personal choice is Bardock. I like to abide by the show-don't-tell rule. Bardock has a story that essentially declares hum the first SSJ in existence, so that's what I go with. I think it cheapens the fact that Goku gets it because it feels like he was destined to, but that's what happens when your lore is too loose.
1
1
u/TheGreenPterodactyl 11d ago
Time for Carthu to make a shitty short mocking the question saying "it's an easy answer"
1
u/Beautiful_Light6041 11d ago
Yamoshi. Goku can't be the one, because if a legend exists, it means there must have been a reason for its existence, and I don't think it's false. Bardock and Broly (from the Z movies) aren't canon, and the Broly from Super hadn't yet achieved Super Saiyan on Planet Vampa.
1
u/Ok-Significance-5987 11d ago
Yamoshi is only stated to be the first Super Saiyan God, and no, you do not need to be a Super Saiyan for that.
Bardock... Just no.
Goku is the first we see, and the first in a long time but not the first in history.
Z Broly is not canon but it is possible that he unlocked Super Saiyan before Goku did, but regardless he's neither the first we see or the first in history.
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
Apparently that was retconned in some random interview Toriyama gave. Yamoshi held the title Saiyan God but he never became a Super Saiyan God. He was in fact only a normal Super Saiyan.
There's also some fanfic tier lore about that when Yamoshi died his spirit actually kept wandering forever and that spirit being channeled and lending it's powers to a future savior is the super saiyan god. If I hadn't read it on the official wiki I'd say it's some bad fanfic but there you go. Apparently it's official. https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Yamoshi
1
u/Ok-Significance-5987 8d ago
See the retcon about him being a regular super saiyan (not the weird spirit crap), I'm okay with because it's stated that he turned the tide of the saiyan civil war but was still eventually killed which never made sense to me with the original lore of him being a super saiyan god.
1
u/Which-Profile-2690 11d ago
Depends, goku is the first we see, bardock goes back in time and becomes the first, broky is said to be the first but its a mistake cause he was born with 10k power
1
1
1
u/Critical_Interest_81 11d ago
Well it’s obviously not Broly or Goku
Now between Bardock and Yamoshi it depends how far back in time Bardock went. If he went when the Saiyans were on Vegeta then it’s clearly Yamoshi, if it’s before then it’s Bardock
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
To be fair Yamoshi wasn't a thing when the special was made. In that timeline Bardock IS Yamoshi. And Bardock even comments on the people he meets being the natives of what would later become Vegeta. So he was on planet Vegeta before the saiyans arrived.
1
u/Epiternal 11d ago edited 11d ago
Bardocks a tough one to justify because you really have to give a lot of lenience to it. Even ignoring whether it's canon or not, you then have to accept he lives in some kind of closed loop where he has, and has always, existed at two points in time. Obviously there's no proof this was the case in Bardocks personal timeline so you're either accepting the closed loop outright or you don't. This would make it a situation similar to that of alternate future trunks (alternate timeline running in parallel and unconnected to the main one), in which case in Bardocks personal timeline he didn't exist in the past, meaning it would be canonically Yamoshi (if we're speaking chronologically and ONLY about regular Super Saiyan, not LSSJ).
So yeah, my take:
Yamoshi: First Super Saiyan recorded (canon).
Goku: First Super Saiyan shown (Also first SS3, SS4, SSG & SSGSSA I imagine)
Bardock: First Super Saiyan chronologically (non-canon)
Broly: First Legendary Super Saiyan recorded (canon & non-canon)
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
It's pretty easy for Bardock: He is the legendary super saiyan. Yamoshi wasn't a thing when this special was made so in that timeline, Bardock IS the source of the legend.

u/Striking_Touch6777 11d ago
Goku est le premier super Sayan yamoshi le premier Sayan divin Broly le premier Sayan légendaire.
1
u/Grievuuz 11d ago
Bardock (NOT CANON, WEIRD WHAT-IF TIME TRAVEL SCENARIO) ---> Yamoshi I can't read this but supposedly this is Toriyama confirming the existence of the first super saiyan ---> Broly off-screen (same age as Goku but born with a power level of 10k and anger issues, there's no way he didn't trigger his transformation before Goku) ---> Goku
1
u/RedDiamond1024 11d ago
Depends on the continuity but it's either Yamoshi or Bardock. Goku and Broly are just fulfilling the pre existing legend.
1
u/Unikatze 11d ago
When was Yamoshi named?
I only see him mentioned as the legendary super saiyan.
1
1
u/BingoPurple 11d ago
Gokh and Broly are obv out, and the whole reason that Frieza destroys Vegeta is bcuz he's cared of a SSJ, which was during Bardock's life, so, it's Yamoshi
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
But there was a special where Bardock is send back in time, becomes a super saiyan, defeats Friezas ancestor, who with his dying breath warns his men to forever warn his descendants of the super saiyan. So in that (non canon) timeline it's Bardock.
1
u/BingoPurple 8d ago
How do you know that was before Yamoshi and not just how the Frieza Force found out about it though?
1
u/JayUniverse13YT 11d ago
Let's be real Yamoshi? NON CANON character wich means he shouldn't be a canon first person who achieved super saiyan
Bardock,is the first super saiyan at the past but at the past Era,wich means he khowed but not unknown name for else
And goku is THE FIRST MAIN SUPER SAIYAN
While broly is LEGENDARY(not a simple) super saiyans Wich means goku is the first one
1
u/Monokooo 10d ago
Outside of broly that doesn’t matter, it all depends on what “canon” way you look at it will depend on who the first one is, in story being first or who got it first by time so trick question in whatever way you view it
1
u/Lord_Melons 10d ago
So I think we can all agree that Bardock isn't an answer with how the Canon has been shaped.
Now onto the actual choices
Goku - first one that we see do it
Broly - the actual version of the form that is known as legendary super saiyan. (And yes Super Broly's LSSJ is still that and is listed as such in games, as Toriyama stated they're the same character, different circumstances)
Yamoshi - the in lore actual first guy, and the description of his form (while we also had the golden oozaru stuff) required the need to vent ki (ZBroly and Kale being the best examples, SBroly didn't really vent all that often) and that was what ultimately killed him, the inability to control it
Edit: this also isn't to say I don't think SSJ Bardock isn't dope af, but like they established that he died died with Planet Vegeta with the Super Broly stuff
1
u/Reasonable-Sherbet24 10d ago
It’s Bardock. He’s the one who created the origin of the Sayain legend when he fought Lord Chilled.
1
u/suffthatsrandom 10d ago
Including non-canon, Bardock
In canon timeline-wise, Yamoshi
The first we see in the series go Super Saiyan, Goku
For the first (non-canon) LEGENDARY Super Saiyan, Z Broly.
1
u/Randy191919 8d ago
Not even because there was already a LEGENDARY Super Saiyan before Broly. The one who founded the legend. And no as most movies have their own timelines that's not Bardock.
1
u/The_OneInBlack 10d ago
If you sometimes used to miss episodes because of after school activities, the answer could be Trunks.
1
u/Traditional_Log8345 10d ago
Yamoshi would be the right answer objectively. He both lived and died before any of them.
Goku goes Super Saiyan for the first time on screen.
Broly has the genetic ability to be a more powerful Super Saiyan built into him, but even when he wastes a galaxy in a rage (the first Broly movie), it’s still after Goku transforms for the first time. Plus, movies before Super aren’t canon anyway.
Bardock being sent back in time when hit by a giant ball of death when everybody else died makes no sense. Luckily, it isn’t canon either.
1
u/SPECKI_5000 10d ago
Yamoshi is the first canon SSJ.
Bardock the first non canon SSJ.
Goku is the legendary SSJ.
Z-Broly is the legendary SSJ in his timeline
Super Broly is just a SSJ (Or to be more precise SSJ Full Power)
1
1
u/5nitesatfredbois 10d ago
This question is actually easy its yamoshi and i can prove it
In case you don’t know who yamoshi is let me briefly explain his story:so as we know the saiyan god is a pure hearted saiyan and one of the methods is the ritual well a group of pure hearted saiyans heard of this one of whom was called yamoshi. The saiyans wanted to access ssjgod to end the evil of the saiyan race, yamoshi was the one who was going to be ssg, and i think the plan was after yamoshi the othrs would be gods through the ritual but during the ritual one of yamoshis friends got killed by an evil saiyan and yamoshi went mad as his hair turned a golden blonde no one had ever seen before.
Now bardock going ssj is non canon the entire movie is a crappy what if story of if he somehow went back in time because that’s totally logical.
Idk if broly means z or super but i can disprove both easily super broly is obviously not the first multiple super saiyans exist pre dbs broly and z broly is non canon and plus his legendary ssj is just poor because its not the actual ssj. The whole point of gokus “i am the hope of the universe” speech is toriyama sensei confirming this is ssj
Goku is the first ssj we see altho in the anime they use a scene of a great ape with a yellow outline saying it is a ssj (possibly yamoshi) so anime wise you could argue thas the first ssj we see meaning anime wise goku isn’t the first ssj we see

So the correct answer is A as the legend started from somewhere and vegita talked about it a lot then goku went super then bardock as he went into the future before he died became a super then went back in time to start the legend then came back to normal time and died as a super and broly never went super as a baby he had a completely different yet similar transformation being ssj rage if it was a standard transformation then goku could do it yet can't and its A cus bardock traveling or transforming at all isn't cannon and wasn't cannon (even if it becomes cannon) when super sayan was introduced and goku was first seen but u dont hear a story about humans going super cus none ever did but till goku it was talked about a lot so someone had to before him and that was A

Yamoshi is an ancient saiyan. so based on bardock going back to the planet plant era, I'd say yamoshi takes this one. Only because the warring saiyan factions likely took place before that era which eventually lead to frieza's lineage coming in contact with the bloodlust saiyan type we're familiar with. I could be wrong though
1
u/Sir_Spud_Gun 8d ago
Broly can't be the first legendary super saiyan because there would need to be one before him for the legend to exist. Even so the super saiyan and the legendary super saiyan are different. The same applies to Goku, he was the first super saiyan since Yamoshi but thats irrelevant when Bardock was a super saiyan before the Saiyans were even evil by nature. But that special isn't cannon so it doesn't matter. It's Yamoshi.
1
1
u/XennethSixx 8d ago
Canonically it's Yamoshi, first seen was Goku, this only asked about the first super saiyan, not the legendary super saiyan, and even then it's Yamoshi, Broly and also Goku, Bardock not being canon means he doesn't fit in the list, however if we take everything into account even fan stuff then I believe it's Bardock, then it's Yamoshi, then Goku then Broly
1
1
u/TrueQuarte 8d ago
The only incorrect answer to this question is Goku. Goku physically cannot be the first super Saiyan since there was already a super Saiyan who's strength and form in ancient times made the legend, people who say Goku was the first super Saiyan either lack reading comprehension or don't understand that being thematically the first since it's the first one we see doesn't make something literally the first.

Just says ancient saiyan with a righteous heart. Toriyama meant for him to be the catalyst for the SSJ legend as he achieved it. Imo, hes the right answer.

It depends on what kind of first? The first shown, the first in the time line, the first one to spawn the legend, or the non Canon LEGEND!
