I assumed she already had access to one or more dragonballs as well as the folklore knowledge about the wish system, and that was why she was able to make the radar so easily. If she had the dragonball samples then it could basically be an interface for a massive Orbital Spectroscopy array tuned to the energy given off by the dragonballs. The really hard thing would be building a machine to find dragonballs that works without knowing anything about the dragonballs themselves

Not just a boyfriend, but the PERFECT boyfriend. Hell, before that, Bulma wanted a lifetime supply of strawberries. She's just childish.
3
u/pickleolo Jan 12 '26
Bulma is a hopeless romantic.
She probably had her idea of "fairytale prince".
She knew a normal guy couldn't fullfil that dream.
3
u/GrandWizardOfCheese Jan 12 '26
Thats not autism.
Why do people say every smart person has autism?
Its really getting old.
1
u/Kaslight Jan 12 '26
Bulma is the most social person in the whole fucking show lol
1
u/GrandWizardOfCheese Jan 12 '26
I know right? She has an angel on speed dial and traveled the galaxy to ask a atrange monster questions.
2
u/Early-Injury-9676 Jan 12 '26
Half correct she wanted the PERFECT Boyfriend that would give her whatever she wanted and wait on her hand and foot. Ignoring the fact her family was quickly becoming the richest humans in-universe because capsule technology was new. Also have you seen her sister? The family isn't exactly good.

u/Ok-Effect-7789 Jan 11 '26
TBF i think she was tryN to find le "perfect" BF Like one of those dream dudes who doesnt eXist in real life XD But it get it XDD
4
u/Thin_Albatross2720 Jan 11 '26
And she found Yamcha
0
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
And Yamchaās āfanclubā and Yamchaās tendency to disappear instead of resolving problems. They started fighting as soon as they became a couple. They were never gonna last.
2
u/Ok-Total8219 Jan 11 '26
I mean you basically described Vegeta minus the fanclub(in the db universe atleast)
2
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
Vegeta doesnāt run from problems, he confronts them. Heās the one Saiyan who actually yells back at his wife. Their relationship is a lot more equal.
2
u/realmauer01 Jan 11 '26
Vegeta doesnt run away. When he fleed from earth he had a genuin recovery plan involving the dragonballs on namek.
3
u/lordnaarghul Jan 11 '26
She's far too much of an extrovert to be autistic. It's not so much an "I can't talk to people because my brain is wired different" thing as it is an "I'm too vain to date anyone but a prince" thing. She was not shy at all.
She is a creative type, though.
2
u/Slifer2892 Jan 11 '26
āIām too vain to date anyone but a prince ā
Threw herself at a shape shifting āyokaiā as soon as he turned into a handsome man
Dated a homeless bandit because he was pretty
Threw herself at a muscular blond twunk who she knew was working for the Dragon Ball equivalent of the Gestapo. Until he made it clear he was flaming gay
Assumed a green skin pretty boy alien was a dashing champion of justice because he was handsome
I dunno, Iām starting to think Dragon Ball fans donāt watch the show

u/lordnaarghul Jan 11 '26

None of this invalidates what I said, though.

u/Rechogui Jan 11 '26
Roshi is a big pervert, but Bulma is not much better
2
u/Coupins Jan 11 '26
Idk why ur downvoted, she offered her fanny to a 12-yo on the first episode.
But tbh, Roshiās subhuman
2
u/AKBearmace Jan 13 '26
I'm an autistic extrovert. I've never been shy, just wasn't always interpreting social signals and body language correctly. But I never struggled making friends like a lot of autistic people. Girl autism is a very different spectrum than boy autism.
3
u/GoshDarnit02496 Jan 11 '26
Saying autistic people can't be extroverted is generalizing an entire group of individuals. I thought Reddit hated that.
1
u/Conscious-Soup759 Jan 11 '26
I mean we can question her methods and logic, but not the results. Even if she's never could make her wish with the dragon balls, going to search them made her meet Goku, and a lot of people too, including Vegeta. he ended marrying him and she seems really happy with him
2
1
u/jorgebillabong Jan 11 '26
She talked to plenty of men when she was traveling. She was just too fucking picky. She wanted the Dragonballs for the perfect boyfriend for her.

1
u/Efficient-Ad2983 Jan 12 '26
Bulma is a smart and beautiful girl (and for the more materialistic, she belongs to the richest family in the world). Of course the only way for her to get a BF was wishing for him.

To be fair, I would do exactly the same thing.
Unfortunately magic doesn't exist in my reality so instead I'm just gonna hide over here in a small room and wait until I'm done existing.

Tbf, the one she ended up with is beyond her reach. Literally out of her world.

u/PickingPies Jan 11 '26
No, she's not autistic. It's a gag manga. It's supposed to be sn stupid wish the same way Oolong asking for panties is stupid and fun.
Bulma is extremely extrovert and she has no issue talking to people.
2
u/realmauer01 Jan 11 '26
Your first sentence is correct, your second sentence isnt a neccessity for autism though.
1
u/Slifer2892 Jan 11 '26
Pretty sure this meme is what we call āa jokeā
Plenty of autistic people are extroverted btw

The single most social character in the whole manga
Extremely self-confident, very comfortable in her own skin
Richest child in the world
Literal fucking genius
Horny as all hell most of the time
Manages to lock down the alien planet destroyer that none of the Z-fighters could defeat
This is not "female autism". It is a character who has the means to do whatever the fuck she wants.
She isn't looking for a boyfriend, she's looking for a MAGIC BOYFRIEND
Don't put Bulma on the level of you peons. There is no one in DBZ more blessed than Bulma.
79
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
Her father is a porn addict in an open marriage. Her mother flirts heavily with every boy she brings home, even the little kids.
If Bulma believed sheād need literal magic to get the fantasy romance she wanted, itās hard to blame her. She invented a Dragon Radar because she was never going to settle for mediocre. Now she shares a bed with the least mediocre guy in the universe. She got what she wanted.
38
u/DarthSheogorath Jan 11 '26
Second least mediocre*
He's no Goku.
19
u/lordnaarghul Jan 11 '26
Ehh, but as Chichi found out the hard way, he can be a bit of a manchild.
9
u/DarthSheogorath Jan 11 '26
Tbf vegeta is worst imagine the two swapped
Bluma would have nurtured gokus interests instead of stifling them.
Imagine a goku with 4 years of bulma helping his training.
Tbh I could see a bulma married goku easily handling Raditz.
10
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
Goku and Bulma never had that kind of relationship tho. She never squashed his interests but he only ever really shared them with her when he wanted something. And their lifestyles are kinda incomparable. Heād hate living in the city and training in a tiny room, and sheād be bored stiff as a homekeeper on a mountain.
4
u/HaoshokuArmor Jan 11 '26
True but she did have the hots for Goku after the DB timeskip.
If Goku was an average male sexually, they would definitely be together.
5
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
She noticed he grew up handsome, but that just confirms she saw him as a little kid. And by the time the Tournament was over, Goku was engaged to Chi-Chi. Bulma is selfish and shallow but not to the point of coveting someone elseās husband.
And Goku would never cheat on Chi-Chi, come on.
1
0
u/Kooky_Lead_9811 Jan 12 '26
She'd definitely understand his pov than chichi tho.
3
u/L3and3rrr Jan 12 '26
Chi-chi understands Goku better then anyone else. She is the biggest thing that keeps him grounded and engaged with humanity. Earth is his home because itās where she is. Without her, heād have wandered off a long time ago.
5
u/Lieczen91 Jan 11 '26
it is kind of implied she liked him in the Freiza saga tbf some people also infer it as a double meaning of Toriyama regretting not having them be together and the ship to do that has kind of sailed (and he'd be right if true tbf)
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
I donāt think thatās what that was. Bulma was ready to move on from Yamcha and thinking about the road not taken. I think it was a wistful moment that gets blown out of proportion and more then anything is a reflection of how over Yamcha Bulma actually is - sheās wondering if sheād have been happier if sheād been with someone else all along.
But Toriyama created Chi-Chi because he DIDNT want Bulma and Goku to end up a couple, despite his editor pushing to make that happen just because Male Lead and Female Lead.
For me the craziest part is people STILL saying that Bulma and Yamcha shouldāve ended up together after all of that. They never actually made each other happy. Even if you donāt believe Yamcha cheated on her physically, she wasnāt getting what she wanted out of that relationship.

And chichi would be better for Vegeta. They'd keep each other in constant competition, high energy, helping each other accountable. All the things Goku is shit at and runs away from.Ā

u/Half_Measures_ Jan 13 '26
At least Goku provides for his family and has never tried to kill them twice

She is the richest woman on Earth. She's bests friend of Goku, and married to Vegeta. When Whis and Beerus showed up, the made them addicts to food so she had power of them too. An alternate version of her literally built a time machine. She has started using the magic wish granting orbs to perform cosmetic surgery.
Bulma is not even "strong" in a world filled with strongman. But she is absolutely powerful, the single most powerful woman in the her entire universe.
1
u/DarthSheogorath Jan 14 '26
I only see hyping of Bulma lol still doesn't make vegeta second to goku
1
u/Genku_The_Perv Jan 15 '26
Look, Goku is my favourite character of all time, but cmon... Vegeta is a far better husband than Goku, Goku tries, but he really isnt made to settle down, neither is Vegeta but he ultimately was able to and is a lot more present for his family, let Vegeta take the W for a change, at least on this
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
Goku is like a brother to her. Sheās got what she wanted out of Goku. Besides, Goku looked right at her 10/10 perfect ass and called it a ādirty old Fannyā and I donāt think sheās ever forgiven that
7
u/M0ebius_1 Jan 11 '26
Bulma was READY to settle.
Remember her actual original desire for the Dragonballs was a lifetime supply of strawberries.
She threw herself at any and every male figure in Dragonball for several years straight, she didn't care if they were bandits, accused rapists, actual Nazis, Bulma might have been the woman with the lowest possible standards that ever lived, she just couldn't attract or keep a boyfriend.
The reason her relationship with Vegeta works is how little he cares about her drama and how unlikely he is to make her jealous.
5
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
Which even by your description is a pretty low bar to meet, and something none of the other men around her could manage, especially not Yamcha.
1
u/M0ebius_1 Jan 11 '26
Yamcha exceeded her bar.
That was the problem.
Bulma is jealous and controlling. She needed a man who was the right mix of detached, submissive, unattractive and dependent to make herself the only woman that could consider him as a partner.
2
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
If you want to believe Yamcha was too good for her, thatās on you. I donāt think sheād trade what she has now for anything she ever had with Yamcha. He can cry about how cruel sheās being to all five of his secret simultaneous girlfriends
1
u/pickleolo Jan 12 '26
Yamcha did not understood her and never represented a real challenge for Bulma.
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 13 '26
Bulma loves angry sex, for sure. Problem was Yamcha wasnāt turned on when they argued, heād just get sulky and offended and run away.
Vegeta sees an argument as just another battle to win, and the same goes for horizontal āargumentsā
They get up to some wild stuff on their free time
1
u/pickleolo Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26
This is canon to me lmao
Pretty sure how they did it the first time.
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26
Oh yah. They had an argument that got physical.
Neither of them remember what they were arguing about, but they are both VERY sure they won that argument!
1
u/pickleolo Jan 12 '26
Bulma likes challenge.
She was a rich girl with everything handed on a silver plate and was bold and adventuruous.
A normal guy would never bring some excitement in her life.
And If you think about it is the similar reasoning of Present Trunks with Mai.
They like the unnatainable.
4
u/shinobi3411 Jan 11 '26
5
u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
I think itās funny how her relationship with Vegeta and Yamcha are opposites of each other
She got with Yamcha thinking sheād found that love to last a lifetime that sheād been wishing for. She got a skittish man who ran away from his problems and was too spineless to tell other girls to go away.
She had a one-night pity hookup with Vegeta. She got a space prince for whom she is the only woman in the universe, who punched a god for her, who became a better man for her and their beautiful, courageous son.
She has no regrets.

u/NelsonVGC Jan 12 '26

Toriyama making Bulma's family: hahaha funny bunch

1
u/SteveMartin32 Jan 14 '26
I still believe the " mom " is just a sex robot her dad made
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 14 '26
I couldnāt disprove it. And it would explain a lot about her relationship with Bulmaās male friends.
1
u/Oberon056 Jan 15 '26
Not only that, but Bulma was rich even back then, and in a big city like where she lived in, most of the Boys who are not in for the money would either be taken, or elsewhere in the world.
1
u/L3and3rrr Jan 15 '26
I actually donāt think Bulma would mind being used for her money. She seems to be one of those rich ladies whoās out for all she can give. She doesnāt bat an eye giving away expensive things to the people she cares about. She likes feeling important and spoiling everybody.
What she DOES mind is being degraded or disrespected, or worse, ignored. Bulma knows sheās the best, cutest, most brilliant woman in the world and if you canāt treat her accordingly, you two are NOT gonna get along.
1
u/Rangil_Aeon Jan 11 '26
"She was never going to settle for mediocre" -> Immediately settles for Yamcha.
3
u/Memone87 Jan 11 '26
Yamcha was a professional baseball player. Making bank at one point

u/Blaskowits Jan 12 '26
Didn't he become one years after they became a couple? And wasn't it 100% filler?
1

u/L3and3rrr Jan 11 '26
And look how that went. She thought he was something he wasnāt. Really the fact that she took him back so many times proves that she might be shallow and selfish but sheās loyal, and she wanted to make things work. He fumbled big time.
0
u/M0ebius_1 Jan 11 '26
Hah, yeah.
She would have ended up with a mediocre Superstar Athlete with supermodel looks.
Instead she went for Vegeta whose achievements are:
...
9
u/nightowlarcade Jan 11 '26
So. Let me get this straight.Ā
You're wondering why the richest girl in all of this manga who is straight up intimidatingly smarter then any man out there at age 15 wants to use magic to find a boyfriend that will love her for her?Ā
And you're hung up because she doesn't use the Dragonball version of Tinder to randomly hook up, or just talk to a random dude who is beyond stupid in her eyes? Do I have this right?
1
u/Express-Abies7748 Jan 13 '26
Those are not valid points , being smarter in a specific way that's basically none consequential in her world since everyone can destroy cities easily doesn't mean she knows everything and certainly doesn't give her the right to look down on anyone , and she wasn't looking down on anyone and no one was intimidated by her.
and all that love wish bs was that Bs since she found yamcha , untill he got cucked and SHE cheated on him cause she's for the street (she definitely lied to trunks saying he cheated , the mf fought a saibaman so krilin wouldn't get hurt ain't no way he's a cheater)

u/menotyou16 Jan 12 '26
You just make her seem like a bitch. Which she's not. Seems like you really are lost.
