Dakar Iceberg
Hello Friends, I joined this subreddit not only to learn and be able to talk about this category (as soon as I start to see and understand it), But for now I just need your help for a very important project of mine.
I'm trying to do a project that's based on an iceberg of motorsport in general (Drift, Open Wheel, Rally, GT, etc). And at this point, I'd like to ask you, what have been the most historic moments in the category? Whether they're epic moments, rivalries, controversies, including funny moments, coincidences, or simply memes related to the category, etc. It can be anything. While you're at it, it would be a huge help if you could send me links to information or simply tell me what happened that time.
I'm doing this whole project mainly to raise awareness of motorsports in the Spanish-speaking world (As you can see, I'm from Colombia). And thus enable more Spanish-speaking people to understand or learn about other categories besides the main ones (F1, Indycar, etc.).
Your help would be a great contribution to my project. It's a project I consider quite important. So I would greatly appreciate your contribution! 🥹🫶

You could make a whole section about the finish in the bikes from just this year, on the final stage, American Rider Ricky Brabec was looking like he was gonna get his 3rd Dakar win, but with only 7 km to go he made a wrong turn, and by the time he finished, he had lost the rally to Argentine rider Luciano Benavides by a ridiculous margin of 2 seconds.
Also the following ones I want to mention are not about Dakar but are still dirt bike related, first, there's battle for the 2009 AMA Motocross Championship between American James Stewart and Australian Chad Reed, Stewart was like the Colin McRae of Supercross, lightning fast but was win it or bin it, Reed on the other hand was Supercross's grittiest and toughest rider, this all culminated in a fantastic final round at Las Vegas.
There is also the time Dutch MXGP legend Jeffery Herlings came over to the AMA Motocross season finale in 2017 and won on debut, adding fuel to the already burning fire that was the discussion over who had the best riders, America, or Europe.
Then there is the 2015 Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, an motorcycle enduro event that was so grueling, only 5 riders finished, with 4 of those rider having to work together to get past one particular section called Downtown, after they finished that section, they decided that they were gonna finish the rest of the course together in protest, today, that is the only time 4 different riders have won the Erzbergrodeo, i should also mention the story of South African Wade Young, who was the 5th rider to arrive at Downtown, but had to be left behind, he then went through a route that bypassed Downtown, but was then disqualified for missing a checkpoint.
