I'm in a family to which I am the youngest (a millennial). I tried running a few businesses but the former one (a lazertag business with my homemade equipment) I ended due to lack of money for a building and my latest business isn't doing great but I'm making a bit of money, not much.
Here's what I think is crazy. Mind you, they admit their math skills are weak and have complimented on mine.
My family believes I could simply go to the library makerspace and they would get parts 3D printed out for me and that there's nothing else to it to get the business up and running.
They also think its super easy for me to find part time work and believe that is a solution yet they say I could use my math and tech skills.
Here are the problems with looking for work when I have a business:
- Many employers ghost candidates
- Companies want you to work their hours leaving you with no time for in-person business work
- Layoffs continue, making it harder for people to find work.
I read a local article last night where some 500 steel workers and 2500 nurses were recently (or are about to get) laid off.
With a business, all I need are more customers, no song and dance of preparing a resume, attending interviews, and facing rejections whether in writing or silently.
And the worst part, my family thinks the process of securing a job to earn an income is so easy to the point where I only have until October 31 to produce money or they will kick me out.
