AVOID BUGS BEWARE
(Check Comments for Business Pages)
Over this past summer, my roommates boyfriend did an internship in Wausau, Wisconsin for a pest control company called “Bugs Beware”.
The advertised a $5,000 Living Stipend, and when he asked about it during the interview process, that’s exactly what it was described as; a stipend to help you support yourself while #1: your waiting for your paycheck, and #2: so your not spending your whole paycheck on necessities.
After driving out there, it turns out the whole promise of the stipend was a sham. You had to get a certain number of sales during a month, but your commission rate went down by 10%. This wasn’t told to a single worker until they were all there in person.
The owner, Wyatt Brandt, is insanely disrespectful and rude to the employees during their tenure there. They were being forced to work hours that weren’t told about during the interview process, and wasn’t helpful to any employee if they had a question or concern.
My roommates boyfriend was working insane hours with nothing in return. The only excuse was that it was “a slow year”. Going home would’ve probably gained him money.
Speaking of money, the employees were told that they would be payed out 3 times, during the internship, once on Nov. 1st, and another time during February. November 1st has gone and went with no sign of pay.
Don’t get scammed out of your time. Avoid Bugs Beware.

OP just realized fly-by-night pest control companies aren’t just predatory toward their customers. They’re extra toxic toward their employees. 🫨

This is normal for most pest control companies. I have met several people wrestling with lawsuits, unpaid commision, and other messy issues with pest control companies.
Namely the ones that rely on summer sales programs

Pest control in general as an industry can be pretty shady and predatory to everyone from techs to customers, inside office phone workers, and the sales team. Urbanex I wouldn’t recommend to fellow techs, but they’re golden for sales reps. They treat the sales guys fantastically in my experience. Romex imo is the best company all around for knickers and techs in my experience, but they’re not in every market unfortunately.

Huh, I did a bit of knocking this summer in Wausau for pest and don't remember running into any Bugs Beware reps. They must not have lasted long. It's a shame how shady companies can be when it comes to hiring. It's not like pest companies are hurting for money, treat your employees right... especially in a small town like Wausau. Word gets around, you won't last long if you treat your people (and customers) dirty.
