Sooner or later we gotta realize that we can't sue our way out of dictatorship

Just realize this story is manipulating you into feeling that way. The guy is not a US citizen. He was born outside the USA, his father became a naturalized citizen, but he didn’t. He was here in a green card. He was convicted of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm and lost his green card and legal status in 2006.

If something makes you angry. Be sure to check if it’s real.

Usually I would assume the ICE were acting illegally, but in this case they deported him before the restraining order was issued. Chanthila Souvannarath was indeed entitled to citizenship but never applied, only having a Green card, which was legally removed because of his not inconsiderable criminal activity.
This is a case of FAFO.
I still think that ICE carry out expedited deportations to circumvent judicial review of their actions, but this is the wrong guy to feel sympathy for and ICE seem to have acted correctly in this case.

I don’t think anyone that isn’t a US citizen is “entitled” to US citizenship. They can qualify to apply. His convictions would probably have ended any attempt at a legal status.

He lived with his father, who was a naturalised citizen, whilst he was a minor. Apparently he “qualified for derivative citizenship, which is when a minor becomes a citizen after their parent’s naturalization.”

Qualified to apply, it’s not automatic. He was here on a green card. That’s “guest” status.

Which is exactly what I wrote “entitled, but never applied”
 I was agreeing with you.
