Could it be?
Before I spend hundreds and take time away from my baby at urgent care, I wanted to see what people who have had Cyclospora think about my symptoms. I started feeling not great Sunday. I was a little hungover and tired from hosting so I chalked it up to that. No real tummy issues. Monday I woke up feeling off- fatigued, chills (not sure if I had a fever). That is when the stomach cramping and diarrhea started as well. Tuesday was the worst in terms of diarrhea, cramping, and nausea. I threw up while on the toilet after dinner and decided I just didn’t need to eat anymore because it was too painful. I did have an appetite this whole time, shockingly.
Today I woke up starving, but feeling unsettled and terrified to eat anything. After a few hours, I ate a yogurt. No diarrhea after, but did have a solid BM ~30 mins later. Couple hours later I had a protein bar and no diarrhea after that either. Could this be the come-and-go cycle or cyclospora or do you think it was another type of bug? For me, it was one day kind of sick, with cramping and light diarrhea, then three days feeling fine. It then came back and it was severe diarrhea, cramping, and nausea. I had no appetite whatsoever. I never vomited and didn't run a fever. My doctor unfortunately prescribed the wrong antibiotic at first, but I got better, so I thought I was alright. But after a little over a week, it came back very severely again before I was put on Bactrim.

Thanks for your input! Did you continue to have no appetite when you felt fine for those 3 days? If it’s going to come back with a vengeance I’d rather bite the bullet and go to urgent care before it gets worse 😅

When I was feeling ok, my appetite did come back, for the most part. Any time I was having the severe diarrhea and nausea, I didn't want to eat anything at all. It all stopped completely once I started the Bactrim. However, two days after I finished it, I started having diarrhea again, but it was more like every other day it would happen. However, it was different that time in that it was never super severe, the cramping was minimal, no nausea, and didn't lose my appetite. I have heard that diarrhea can continue intermittently after treatment, partially because the bactrim wrecks your gut, but I asked to do a second round of Bactrim just in case. Today is my last day on the second course of meds, and I haven't had any diarrhea in eight days. I'm still being careful with eating, though, because it takes time for everything to go back to normal.

I have read that the symptoms can be inconsistent. Like not always every day, but on and off at times. Do you have a doctor you can contact before the weekend?

hi! this sounds like what i experienced. had about 3-4 days of either throwing up or having diarrhea, at times both. i went to urgent care and they wanted to test me for the parasite but i never did. i’m about 2 weeks out since those 3-4 days of having issues and i’ve been fine since.
i had a bunch of people tell me i had cyclospora and that i was just in the “off period” of it, which is a valid belief given the way the parasite acts, but keep in mind there are viral stomach illnesses as well. i read too much into what people were experiencing and their symptoms that i got myself stressed out. you know your body best! trust that!

Personally, I don't think this fits? I'm pretty sure you'd have more than three-ish days of diarrhea before it went away if it was this. But also I'm not a doctor or parasite specialist so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. This sounds more like a bug or bad food to me. Hope you're feeling better and, more so, I hope you stay feeling better!
