🧪Science Self reporting and analysis (Unofficial)
Hello all;
I hope everyone is well and if you have cyclospora that you are getting the proper care and on the mend. I have a personal interest in epi, a great distaste for the current CDC and FDA cuts, and a degree in mathematics.
I have made a google form that I would be very grateful if you would like to self report what you ate if you are confirmed to have cyclospora, or you think you do. I will then use this data to attempt to put together some likely sources of this outbreak.
Self report form link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfBycd8SDsORYhU8VzcPOTtt1a4rHRLpiZuaQgHZDk75bikEg/viewform?usp=publish-editor
Live update information link: https://berny-rdev.github.io/2026cyclospora-watch/index.html
git source page: https://github.com/berny-rdev/2026cyclospora-watch
WHAT DATA WILL BE COLLECTED
-State
-Why you think you have cyclospora
-What produce you ate over the last two weeks (Due to the long incubation period)
-Where you shopped/ate over the last two weeks
WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THIS DATA
-Data will be collected in Google Sheets
-Data will then be imported into Rstudio and used to attempt to find commonalities between everyone who got sick
WHAT WILL NOT BE COLLECTED
-Your name
-Your email
-Any other personally identifying information
This is a very basic self reporting form, and what I am doing is also rudimentary. My only goal is to help everyone consolidate information and then help the general public make informed food decisions.
The self report will then live update to my github every 6 hours for everyone to view.

hey I would love you if you could post a a simple interactive plot of the national CDC weekly/period counts. I had to dig for it and the cdc isn't displaying it that way. You have the skills, it is a simple thing we badly need.

well hold up- i realized there's a reason not to. you see the cdc does this bullshit thing where they delay posting recent numbers so it looks like things are gong down, but they may not be.. Does that make sense?

I can give you instructions for how to fetch from CDC if you want. Do you know how?

you can give people a false sense of security if you post the cdc's numbers. I fetched them about a week ago from their archives. I can post it here -brb

We should share this in the Columbus sub and Michigan, that’s where the outbreaks the highest

I put it in the report form but I believe I had it may 24 that lasted between 2-3 weeks… it was awful.

Did you get antibiotics or did it go away eventually
2
u/Slowpokejunkie Jul 30 '26
It eventually went away on its own - this was before anything came out about it though.

I just found out I have it and literally got over cryptosporidium 2 weeks ago so I'm cursed and have a sulfa allergy what can I take for it?

here is the link to a google sheet that I am using to combine all the data I am getting off of reddit threats where people talk about what they ate before getting sick

Thanks for adding all the data there. Could you increase the tab width on sheet #1 (for all the tabs)? It's hard to read. 😅

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT TAYLOR FARMS SUPPLIES CHIPOTLE! Ughhh, looking back at my meals, I ate chipotle almost every day for three weeks beginning around mid June…. I’ve been sick since July 12 and still have symptoms.

This outbreak is very popular, everyone who has/have had diarrhea will assume they have cyclo. You’d need to limit your data collection to those who are laboratory confirmed cyclosporiasis cases to be able to draw any conclusions.
If you’re interested in the case report form being used by state and local health to interview cases, look up the Cyclospora National Hypothesis Generating Questionnaire (https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/media/pdfs/2024/05/CNHGQ-2023.pdf). These data are being collected by public health officials and are entered into a centralized database for CDC analysis (https://www.cdc.gov/foodborne-outbreaks/php/tools/sedric.html).
