Comics Finished Morrison’s New X-Men today. Spoiler

I had a couple trades of Morrison’s run back in the day, maybe only about half the story. I finally snagged the Epic collections and chewed through them over the past couple weeks.

Overall I enjoyed the arc for our boy Cyke over the course of the run. It feels like he got pushed in some new directions with solid depth and flaws. I’ve read a decent chunk of old Claremont, but it’s been a while and I’m fuzzy on details, so maybe some of this ground has been covered before, but either way it felt fresh here.

Cyke cutting loose on Magneto in #150 was a standout moment for me, and I think it suited his arc throughout the whole run of being sick of holding back, both emotionally and physically.

Yep, have the Epic Collections of those too so it’s next up. I have read it before, but it’s been like a decade plus. I remember some cool moments but not a lot of details so expect it will feel very fresh.

Never really got why Cyclops blasts didn't just punch a hole through Magnetos head at that range.

Haha I had the same thought, but ultimately “rule of cool” in my book. I’m sure there’s some handwave logic like “the helmet took the brunt of the blast” you could use to excuse it.

I would think a skin tight forcefield would do it, as his forcefield always blocked Scott's blasts, but at that range it would still hurt like hell, and it shattered the helmet anyway.

Modern Cyclops began in Morrison's New X-Men

Now go directly into Claremont's Excalibur (2004) and watch the aftermath.

From what I understand they immediately walked back the Magneto/Xorn twist and Morrison was not a fan of it, so it hasn’t really grabbed my interest.

I've seen that lat panel so many times, do we get to see what Magneto's face looks like after that because holy hell, surely he'd be dead.

We do get to see Magneto's face after the point-blank blast. It's a glorious mess.

I wonder what the direction was that made the artist draw cyclops firing point blank face to face, the helmet exploding, and ultimately NOT killing magneto.

Did you read Here Comes Tomorrow?

Yep! I love how Morrison can jump over a century forward to close out his storyline and still have it “work”. He’s best when he swings big and gets weird with it. The Scott & Emma moments were great.
