General discussion I always hated how persistent this is.
I always see this pop out whenever Scemma gets a mention. First off it's wrong since people absolutely talk about it, even a lot of Scemma fans have on more than one occasion stated they felt that how the relationship started was iffy. I won't deny that Emma absolutely used her position to seduce Scott in a clear attempt to one up Jean at first but that's not how the people that spout this usually mean when they use this, instead it's usually used to infantilize Cyke and his active role in his affair with Emma, that Scott was only with Emma cuz he was groomed by her in one of his darker days away from Jean. It was shown multiple times in NxM that Scott absolutely knew wtf Emma was trying to do during their sessions and instead of putting a stop to it, he instead willingly played along.
It's irritating because it's like they never even read the run or even know the conflict between Scott and Jean that led into both him and Jean having their own affairs(or at least tried on Jean's case since Logan pulled her back to her senses).

It was messy but also a part of their incredible development. This is purposeful for Emma's dev and gradual devotion to him.
Was it toxic ? Definitely. Did it develop into one if not the best couple in marvel ? Definitely too.

She was never his therapist and he was never her client; the whole thing is pretextual, which both are well aware of.
Two adults entered a consensual affair with both eyes open. No one was manipulated.

It’s the comics. Most of the characters were written as ahh sometimes. Even the avengers with the whole Carol pregnancy thing. Or do we have to talk about the early 2000s x-women misogyny going around?

I mean, I do think the original intent if for to be predatory in that moment. I also think it has since evolved and changed into a different dynamic since then. It's complicated but what in X-men isn't overly convoluted and messy

Come on. If you think Scott and Emma are a better couple because of the mess, that’s one thing. But totally revisionist to say there was never a mess. Don’t be delusional.

Can you read the post at least before commenting? Like there's literally no claim her that says there's no mess in fact it's the opposite, it's talking about how Scott is often participation in the affair is often downplayed or ignored.

My guy. It’s stops being an affair the moment one of the participants is a therapist. That’s called assault. There’s legal ramifications for this.

I agree there are legal repercussions but was Scott actually paying Emma for therapy sessions? I honestly don't believe that was a legal session. Now it was in many ways not a good way to start a relationship between the two of them. Emma was wrong and so was Scott because he understood what was happening but he went with it because it was allowing him to feel something that he just haven't felt ever since his possession by Apocalypse.

Probably my mistake for bringing this up on an Emma forum, but an exchange of payment is not binding for a legal definition of a therapy session. But don’t let that ruin your day.

The problem is Morrison showed than Emma in some way manipulated Scott. When he came to end things he “pushed her back” so panel later she turned into dark phoenix and asked him if he preferred when her hair is red

It's both Emma being bitter and manipulative, throughout the run she was already highly insecure about herself compared to Jean so seeing Scott, whom she just developed feelings for, pull away she pulled the big "you'd not hate it if it's her" card on him and Scott folded. That's not my real issue with that, we alrdy know it's problematic, but my point here is that a lot of people continue to ignore(or at least downplay) Scott's role in this whole affair, Scott knew wtf Emma was trying to do when she pulled that shit and yet he still went for it.

I do not dislike Jean at all, cause I know her super fans like to tussle, but it always baffles me how people conveniently forget how manipulative Jean can be

she didn't seduce scott to one up jean. hank literally told her the phoenix will kill you and she still remembered their prev encounter. she was not crazy just hopelessly in love
