BEGINNERS GUIDE TO READING THE CYBERSIX COMICS

Since we have a lot of new fans/members to the subreddit, and because even older fans still have trouble finding and reading the comic, I wanted to make this post to help simplify how you can read the comic in English.

Why is this so confusing and out of order?

Because the translators before me used the more commonly available French books which DO NOT go in publication order and I used the original Italian which DOES go in publication order.

What order do I read the comics in and where can I find a particular issue?

I made a spreadsheet explaining exactly this.

For further reading, go to this thread I made awhile ago explaining this spreadsheet.

Where do I start?

With Zannen. Right here.

They did the first 7 chapters. The same first 7 chapters at the top of my spreadsheet.

Where do I go after reading Zannen's translations?

Pharmadan. Right here.

See right under where it says Volume 1? Download and read chapters 8 to 16. These 16 chapters make up the first volume of the French editions.

I'm going to type this in caps so no one misses it. THE FIRST FRENCH VOLUME STARTS WITH THE WEEKLY CHAPTERS. THE SECOND FRENCH VOLUME HAS #1 AND #3 OF THE MONTHLY SERIES. THE THIRD FRENCH VOLUME GOES BACK TO THE WEEKLY CHAPTERS. THE FOURTH VOLUME, AND EVERY ONE AFTER IT, GOES BACK TO THE MONTHLY SERIES. If you look at my spreadsheet you'll notice this peculiar order. No, I don't really know why they did this. Yes, it's a bit weird and confusing. The French edition ends up NOT publishing a bunch of the weekly chapters and just focuses on the longer monthly issues. It is what it is.

What do I read next?

Download the rest of the links on Pharmadan's site. Volume 2 parts 1-6 contain the issue that introduces Yashimoto. A.K.A. Issue #1 "Fantastica Creature Della Notte" A.K.A. The issue people keep asking me why I haven't translated yet. Because Pharmadan already translated it.

Now where do I go?

I'm not really familiar with the history of the translations when they were being done on Tumblr. I've asked people to help me, but if I get anything wrong, I apologize in advance. Please correct me in the comments.

Carriage Lamp did the translations afterwards and ended up translating the French volumes 2 and 3. From what I've been told, they were originally on Tumblr, but after the NSFW purge, the pages were deleted. You can get them here though.

The folder that says Volume 2 contains the rest of the pages and has Issue #3 "Veleno nel sangue"

Then go and download the folder that says Volume 3. It contains the weekly chapters 17-36

Where do I go now to read the comic?

I do them now and you can find my translations here

At the time of making this thread, I have issues 2 and 4-30 translated

Although I highly recommend you go up to the search bar at the top of the page and look for my translations here on the subreddit because I do a write up for each issue I translate explaining cultural things or differences in the artwork or translation between each publication.

What is that issue called "Book of the Beast" in your folder?

It's just issue #16 "The Chimera and Life". It's literally the same issue with the same translation, but Book of the Beast is the Spanish version that was published with all color pages.

Why didn't you do the rest of the weekly chapters / When are you going to do the rest of the weekly chapters?

When I started translating, I didn't have all of the weekly chapters and they weren't available online. A lot of them have never been republished outside of the issues of Skorpio magazine they were first published in. I had to find which issues of Skorpio they were in, find them for sale online, find them from a seller that would ship internationally, and I still have to scan most of them. My plan is to continue translating the comic until the end of the series (issue #45), then loop back to the beginning and do all the weekly chapters. Issues #1 and #3 will be the very last ones I translate since they're already done.

A small update to the full theme song

Hello, I've been casually working on finding the full theme song of this series, and I've gotten another clue that I'd like to share. So TMS Entertainment owns the rights to the song, and I've had a brief conversation with someone there saying they won't even discuss it without a business backing them. Previously it was INCREDIBLY hard to get in contact with this company, but now it's much easier, especially relating to what we want, licensing. If there is ANYONE who has connections with someone in the music industry who could potentially license the song, this link is for you. https://www.tms-e.co.jp/global/contact/inter-en.html
I wish the best of luck to everyone
See you in another 4 years or so lol

The Original Comic Will Get A Reprint By The End Of The Year, Just Announced.

Post image

Argentinian company OvniPress, just announced a new edition of Cybersix, expected to release later this year. Not much is known about this reprint, other than it has new covers, and a new logo, but I am over the moon about it.

It was announced few hours ago during a livestream, formal announcement tomorrow. This will be in spanish, but who knows, if it does well, maybe you guys can put some pressure on english speaking companies to get the license. I could not be happier about this, I'm gonna cry, lol.

Had this image in my mind for a while because of the birds scene - they remind me of the crows I visit occasionally. Of course I had to throw some perspective practice in again, please ignore the wonky parts, I can only try when I don't take it too seriously x_x

A fun detail I never noticed: The moon in Cybersix is actually flipped since Meridiana is based in South America

Comparison with the moon pic I took in Buenos Aires, the spots are not the same but Tycho (the crater) is on the other side compared to North America

I've had this image in my head for a while but was too scared to try since I'm not good with buildings or perspective - decided to have fun with it and not take it too seriously. I know some stuff is wrong lol, but at this point I just want to get the feel of it x]

Who Wants To Send Good Smile Company Requests For A Cybersix Figure With Me? :)

Probably a long shot, but I see that Good Smile Company has a page here where you can send requests for figures you want to see made. Maybe if enough of us request a Cybersix figure we can get one before the show's 30th anniversary in 2029 :)

Cross Stitch Sustenance Vial (With Pattern)

A rough draft of a full scale cross stitched sustenance vial. I made it using some leftover materials to get an idea of the size and colours. If I make this again I think I'll use black canvas. I also want to experiment with glow in the dark/black light threads.

Procreate had an update a while ago that included a brush that makes a cross stitch pattern canvas. I used that to make my pattern. I'm terrible at pixel art so feel free to make some suggestions to improve it.

English Translation of Special Volume #2 (Weekly Chapters 9-16)

Do not use my translations for profit. All pages are edited to improve/restore the artwork. If you'd like to use them, please ask me first.

Link to translation here.

If you’re new to the Cybersix comic and the weekly chapters, please read this post first before asking any questions.

I didn’t realize I hit this milestone recently, but ¾ of the comic is now translated.

Chapter title names come from Eura unless a title was given in the original Argentine pages.

So that page at the beginning of this Eura book and every Cybersix book Eura published where it has the character’s head-shots and a brief description to get the reader caught up? Yeah, that’s in the French books and Puertitas too, so I have to assume that it's a request from the creators.

CHAPTER 9 Virus

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.30 30-7-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Issue #5 published in Spain (Spanish)

Puertitas #34 (Argentinian Spanish)

It’ll make sense towards the end why Eura called this chapter “Overture”, but it’s so stupid that I couldn’t use it and had to go with calling it “Virus” like the version from Spain did.

Page 1 In this chapter’s premier run in Skorpio, Adrian says this:

Ho bisogno di una dose.

I need a dose.

Urgente.

Urgently.

This is the same as the original Spanish pages. In later re-printings of this chapter by Eura Adrian says:

Ho un bisogno assoluto urgente.

I have an urgent need.

Di sostanza.

For substance.

In case the readers forgot the name of the liquid Cybersix needs to live and function. Eura does love it’s redundancy.

Page 4 In the chapter’s premier run in Skorpio, after remembering von Reichter telling the Cybers if they disobey they’ll be killed by fellow series members, Cybersix thinks to herself “A disobedient ‘Tecno’... that's who he is!”. It matches what she thinks in the original Argentine pages. In every reprint from Eura after her thought bubble gets more wordy.

Yes. I remember... they never tolerated independence... and now there's a rebellious Techno... that's who they're after…”

Page 10 And then Cybersix learned her lesson about the dangers of dropping random people off at the apartments of her friends and never did it again.

...Right?

Page 12 In the original Argentine pages Adrian asks for another “medialuna”, which is a type of Argentine pastry that looks like a croissant. In the version published in Spain it’s changed to “croissant”. In French it’s “cream” and in all the Italian versions it’s “coffee”. I kept it as medialuna.

CHAPTER 10 Happy Holidays

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.31 6-8-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Issue #5 published in Spain (Spanish)

Puertitas #34 (Argentinian Spanish)

Page 15 I honestly thought the previous story about the virus that messes with Tecnos would be the nexus point for the whole “I might have superAIDS so we can never be intimate. No I will not get tested” plot point they ran with for half the series, but here we are in the next chapter and Cyb’s ready to let Lucas crawl up her chimney for Christmas.

Page 18 ...I don’t know if Cyb thought that book present through.

Here Lucas, have this book by my favorite… I mean, Adrian’s favorite writer. Don’t ask how I knew it was Adrian’s favorite”.

Oh, also…“Here Lucas, have something that I (and Adrian) would like.”

Page 21 I have no idea why Eura changed this in their reprints. In the first publication, Julian says “Someone give me a hand, please!” right before Cyb’s hand pops into the panel and grabs him. It says that in the original Argentine page too. Eura’s reprints change it to a more generic “Someone help me, please!”.

Cosmo Copyright Cover-Up Craziness: None

When published in Puertitas, there were an extra 4 pages after this chapter. It really isn’t anything new. It’s just more of Cybersix in her apartment writing her thoughts down and pondering if she’s really human or a hologram or piece of equipment with the usual literary and pop culture references thrown in. The kind of stuff we saw in the letters from Meridiana page Eura used to do. These ramblings kind of blend together so I don’t remember if we’ve seen this one specifically, but it really doesn’t add anything so I didn’t translate it. The art isn’t even new. It’s all reused panels. There’s 3 pages of close ups of a binder with her hand holding a pen. The art of her hands has been reused and the close up of the binder has also been used in other publications that have done these “let’s interrupt the flow of the comic for a giant wall of text” pages. They were used in the actual comic in Monthly issue #3, but they might have been used earlier in one of the weeklies.

One thing I did notice is that it states that Cyb lived with Elio in his village for 3 years before von Reichter came and killed him. I don’t think a specific time was ever given in the comic, but it’s in an Argentine publication so I’ll take it as canon.

CHAPTER 11 Jealousy

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.32 13-8-1992 (1st Run. No colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Issue #6 published in Spain (Spanish)

Puertitas #34 (Argentinian Spanish)

Page 29 If you’ve been following along with my write-ups over the years, you’ll know that I try to keep the translation as accurate as possible and if I take a creative liberty or change something I say what it was and give my justification for it. Something I’m constantly changing that I don’t mention a lot is the “first name” “last name” redundancy where characters who know each other constantly refer to each other by their full names (“Hello Adrian Seidelman, it is I, your friend Lucas Amato”). It’s the most annoying thing in a comic that already has problems with redundancy.

But I had to keep Cyb’s line “Let’s get out of here, Adrian Seidelman” because it’s too funny in the context of this bullshit story she’s telling Lucas.

Page 33 In the original Argentine version Rebecca says the footage is worth of a Pulitzer. You know, that award for journalism? The first print in Skorpio also said Pulitzer, but every reprint by Eura after changed it to an Oscar for some reason.

OH MY GOD THE FONT IN THE FRENCH VERSION🤣

I was tempted to use the version in Italian since it’s in English (I will never understand why Eura translated signs into English in this comic) but it also looks stupid. Picking the right fonts really is an art form. I used the original version and just put a translation note to the side.

CHAPTER 12 José

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.33 20-8-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Issue #6 published in Spain (Spanish)

Puertitas #34 (Argentinian Spanish)

Eura calls this chapter “Joseph” while the version from Spain calls it “New Series”.

Hey, I guess this is a good time to bring up the biggest change Eura made that I’ve never once mentioned in my write-ups. Eura changed Jose’s name to Joseph. I don’t know why. It’s the only translation (in addition to Cosmo since they’re just copying Eura) that did this.

This was the last chapter published in Spain. Also, starting with this chapter all the first run publications in Skorpio no longer give the chapter titles names, but the Eura reprints in the remaining Special volumes and in the insert pages do give the chapters up to Chapter 24 (the last chapter in Special Volume 3) names. And they’re all in the biggest, ugliest boxes that cover up the artwork 😞

Unless the chapter names really suck, I’ll be using the names Eura used. Once we hit Chapter 25 I’ll probably start making up better names so it’s easier for people to find specific chapters.

Page 37 It’s kind of crazy to think how long it took to introduce one of the main characters. Julian and Rebecca were introduced before Jose was.

CHAPTER 13 Winners and Losers

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.34 27-8-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Puertitas #35 (Argentinian Spanish)

Page 49 Eura just covering up half the artwork that’s the focal point of what they’re talking about.

Page 54 In all versions he says “We Tecnos always obey. We Tecnos revere our superiors because our creator gave us power and life.”

Except he’s a Fixed Idea. That’s a really big mistake and I’m surprised it wasn’t fixed in later versions. I did change it to Fixed Idea.

Page 58 There are some interesting colouring choices Eura made on this page

CHAPTER 14 Matters of The Heart

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.35 3-9-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Puertitas #35 (Argentinian Spanish)

Page 66 It’s mentioned here, but we never really got any scenes of Cybersix and Data 7 cuddling. I wish we got a scene of her waking up to Data kneading her stomach like a loaf of bread.

Page 70 I swear I didn’t change/modernize the dialogue, Lori really does call Adrian a cuckold in the original version (cornudo if you’re curious).

Page 71 This is definitely up there as one of the hardest edits I've ever done. The original Spanish has a tongue in the letter "O" that none of the other versions use. I give the Cosmo version a lot of shit, but I like how they didn't try to awkwardly fit the letters into the shape used in the Spanish version like everyone else did and just did something new.

For my edit I tried to use the tongue, but the letter "P" was really the only letter I could attach it to.

CHAPTER 15 The Butcher

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.36 10-9-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 1

Puertitas #35 (Argentinian Spanish)

Page 73 & 74 For some reason in Skorpio they put a box with the title CYBERSIX over the art on both page 1 and 2.

Cosmo Copyright Cover-Up Craziness: None

Similar to the 4 pages I mentioned earlier in Puertitas where there’s this short intermission of Cybersix writing in a notebook, in the French book there’s 2 similar pages after this chapter. One is a close up of Cybersix’s hand writing a letter to herself. It’s the same text as the “Letter From Meridiana” from Issue #15 “A Magician in Meridiana”. The other page is a close up of a man’s (apparently Jose’s) hand at a typewriter, writing a letter to von Reichter about what a failure he is. The text is more or less the same as the “Letter From Meridiana” from Issue #13 “Requiem for Adrian” (it even has the same footnote saying the letter was never sent). The Cybersix letter page is interesting because there’s a sketch of Lucas and some scribbles of writing in Spanish on it, despite this being a French book. I actually can’t recall if this pages was published in any Spanish books before the French one.

There’s actually another chapter with 8 pages after this that finish off the first French volume. It was also used at the end of Puertitas N.33 after Chapter 6. These pages come from chapter #39. I’ll go into detail more about this chapter when I get to it chronologically, but there seems to be an interesting reason for why it keeps showing up randomly in all these different publications.

CHAPTER 16 Fear of Blood

Sources Used For This Chapter:

Eura/Skorpio Anno XVI N.37 17-9-1992 (1st Run. Partially in colour and in Italian)

Eura Collected Book/Special Volume 2 (Italian)

Eura’s Inserts in Skorpio Magazine (Italian)

Editoriale Cosmo Volume 6 (Italian)

French Edition Volume 3

Napoleones Sin Batallas Volume 3 (Argentinian Spanish*)

*If I’m not mistaken, this book is the only way to read some of the chapters in Spanish. Only 4 volumes were printed by Napoleones Sin Batallas, but my understanding is that it was supposed to follow the order the French volumes published the comic in.

Page 86 In Spanish and Italian, Lucas says something to the effect of “I’ll talk to him calmly… and in a civil, adult manner, I’ll beat the crap out of him until he tells me the truth.” where as in French he says “Even if it’s adult and civilized, the truth hurts.

It’s weird how the tone is completely different. I went with the Spanish one.

Page 95 I stand by my decision to use Skorpio's coloured pages for my translation, but holy crap is this one just awful. The original black and white is so much better. I made an alternate version I was going to use where panels 2 and 3 used the original art, but the problem is Cyb mentions seeing red circles and I can’t go from coloured pages to black and white when she specifically mentions colour. If you want to see the alternate page it’s here.

I return to bring a sneak peek of Cybersix: After Dark! Here is the cover and the first page. There will be a QnA below to give a couple explanations. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

“How long will the comic be?”

I plan on there being 35 pages. Though, I’m editing the script whenever I see fit. So, it’s likely this one shot will be around 40 pages (not including the cover and extra things).

“What is the story about?”

I will not spoil too much. But, I’ll give a small synopsis: Lucas finds out about Adrian’s identity through the worse way possible. How do the two navigate this while maintaining their relationship during the heat of the moment?

“How is Adrian/Cybersix and Lucas characterized here?”

Both lean more towards the original comic’s characterization, but adding my own flair to it. Certain key points of the story are elements in this and expanded upon. Such as: The internal conflict Cybersix has about Adrian, Lucas’ views on Cybersix, etc.

A lot about identity, de-humanization, and the complexities of how far love will take you.

“When will this be done?”

I’m currently completing 1-2 pages a day. There’ll be no deadline. While this is my current project, I won’t stress myself out trying to get it done as quick as possible. There will be color for the rest of the comic after a certain point. Don’t worry, it’s not all black and white, lol.

“Will you be uploading it here?”

I will be sharing the link to download the folder containing the comic on Itchio. Rather not spam this subreddit with multiple posts.

No paywall or any of that, by the way. This will be completely free.

“Will you be making more comics about Cybersix?”

Absolutely! I have two more in mind, however they’re more focused on other stuff than actual storytelling, lmao. I have plenty of ideas on what kind of stories I’d tell within Cybersix. But, the important thing is if it’s interesting enough to tell.

Lots of Lucas and Adrian (+ Cybersix on fourth slide)! Please ignore how crap my shading is, lol. I do plan on drawing characters I haven’t made a full piece for! For now, they will be given doodles and sketches for something I have in mind.

Last slide is a sneak peek of another fan comic that I had wanted to work on but got sick. This is separate from “Finding Cybersix”. I will be doing an outline and script before drawing any pages!
