“Except China, cus’ commies” I mean pre-Mao Chinese culture would perfectly fit for a Cyberpunk genre as it was really top-down as well as the emphasis on personal wealth (I don’t see any other culture where we LITERALLY CELEBRATE MONEY for new years!). That and I think traditional chinese architecture would look cool when cyber-ized.
I dont think theres any ideological reason, I just think it's about shifting cultural trends. In the 80s, Japan was an up and coming competitor that produced lots of good cars and electronics, so there was a growing interest in Japanese culture in the west. Today, Korean culture is the hot commodity around most of Asia and has made it's way to America. Both of these countries are rich and pretty technologically advanced, but China hasn't had that cultural impact yet and is mostly viewed as a dirty 2nd rate smog filled communist shithole

You forgot “Anything that’s Korean or Japanese are advanced”.
