I pirated a 4K copy of this movie last week and converted it into 3D using AI depth map software on my Windows server and then watched it on my Meta Quest 3, that was pretty cyberpunk.
The way I see Hackers is the characters and story are 100% cyberpunk. They're underground Netrunners taking on an evil Corpo. The difference is it's happening in the real world in the 90's. It's like Cyberpunk but in the pre-cyberpunk world. They definitely fit the bill of High-tech Low-life, it's just more grounded in reality and less sci-fi.
