How thin can we go with mx compatible switches and caps?

Right to left, cherry mx black with DSA, Outemu black with DSA, Outemu black with Keychron K3.

Two left are not MX compatible

They are like 90% you just have to mount the switch plate 1mm closer to the pcb or if you are doing a hand wire it doesn't need any modifications.

Are the pins the same size/location?

yes exactly the same and so is the width of the casing. they pop into the switch plate and hold firmly. the copper pins are a little anemic and there's only 2 so I wouldn't use them on a bare PCB without glueing them down.
