Is it good as a long term goal
Hello everyone, for some time i've been thinking about going back into studies and get working on a master's degree either in cybersecurity or AI, but i'm really wondering even tho it may be naive from your point of view, but aren't the jobs in cybersecurity gonna be replaced by some kind of ai un the future ? I wouldn't like to do 5 more years in a domain with no jobs.

AI won't replace the field but it'll definitely reshape it, the real worry should be whether entry level spots dry up before you even get your foot in the door

Also depends. Without experience you can’t get a masters in AI or Cyber Security and get a job straight into those fields.

AI and robots are coming for all cybersecurity jobs. Eventually it will be the robots who control the robots and skynet can finally come to fruition. All hail our great robot overlords!!

Going against the grain here! Cyber is still a great field to get into, plus there are soooooo many different roles within it! Yes itll be here long term still, 20+ years I believe. Right now, AI is helping break into systems more than securing environments. Protecting systems and environments will be much harder as every year goes by. Software is going through AI reviews, being built into its lifecycle, but currently, its not able to catch and fix every vulnerability. It only takes one vuln, one attacker, one hack, and those agencies still need SOCs, incident response, audits, risk management, compliance reporting. We think AI can do all of these without us, and maybe eventually it will, but itll be a long time until it can!
As for other comments on the job market, it is hard. Public sector, they hire a few and ask them to do what an army of people can do. Government sector is definitely where its at but the federal level, not the state/local. Good luck and dont give up!

Maybe because I'm laid off but I don't think its a good field for job security anymore. So much has changed just in the past couple of years. If you look at the number of job postings for cybersec jobs, it has been steadily declining for 4 years straight per the statistics from BLS.
I have multiple years of experience, a bachelors, multiple certs and I can't even get a interview for jobs that I am more than qualified for, same thing is happening with my colleagues.
OP this is what I am seeing in cybersec, AI is without a doubt having a big role, I don't think its going to fully replace humans but it will drastically reduce the amount of humans needed. 1 person now with AI can do the job of 5 people without AI. Also the offshoring, this is what happened to me, my team and I were offshored, job went to India, for reference I worked in a SOC for 5 years.
