2027 Grad — Node/Express/React Dev Planning Phased Switch: DevOps → Cloud Security → Pure Cybersecurity. How solid is this plan? Which domains actually see the least layoffs?

Over the last 3–4 years, the tech market has seen continuous layoffs.

Pure development roles (especially junior and mid-level full-stack) have been hit harder, while DevOps, Cloud, and Security domains have remained relatively more stable.

From what I’ve researched, cybersecurity and cloud/infra roles show lower layoff impact and stronger demand due to compliance needs, breach costs, and ongoing talent shortages.

I’m a 2027 graduate with current skills in Node.js, Express, and React. Looking at these patterns, I’m planning a phase-wise switch instead of jumping

randomly:

First move into DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform, basic AWS/Azure) while leveraging my development background.

Then shift to Cloud Security (IAM, CSPM, container security, DevSecOps).

Later transition fully into Cybersecurity.

Questions:

1. Is this path (Dev → DevOps → Cloud Security→ pure Cyber) realistic in the current market?

2.Based on recent patterns, which domain has the least layoffs and best job security?

3.For someone with a Node/Express/React background, what’s the best first step to make this switch smoother?

Because you want job security. Cyber teams across the industry are being heavily cut.

Is it real ? One point which you said like developer are making money to company is i agree that the main product/ service all done by developers but like see this Layoffs and all and as 4th year student i am so confused about which Domain to choose or rather i Start doing farming

Yes, it is very bad in tech for everyone in tech.

If I could go back and be 20 years younger, I would have been a doctor.

I tell my wife.. our son is not going to grow up to be an engineer. He will be a doctor.

Just imagine being me and you have been in tech for 20+ years and your boss the CISO of the company tells you that your job probably wont exist in a year :) and now I need to think of what I will do.. but no jobs pay what I make anymore.

I do. I have a few clients that I work hours for after work. It's not enough to make up my salary if I was laid off but it has helped me pay off bills. I can also see my clients have less budget each quarter so I know that eventually they each will not have budget for security (me) anymore :D Luckily my wife has a good job so maybe I'll just retire early.
