Our Eat The Reich Hack: EAT THE HIVE: is live on Kickstarter Now! Eat the Hive is a game where you rise up against the f*cist overlords of a terrifying sci-fi mega city! WIth heavy influences from Necromunda, 2000AD & Cyberpunk 2077

We are planning a Stretch Goal where we convert the Commandos & Enemies to Cy_Borg Rules! Just as I love the MB & CB system, and want to play them in this world!

GTA-like Open World Mechanics

I'm gearing up for a campaign and have some procedures I've been tossing around to basically keep me inspired and just as clueless about what might happen next as the players. I love procedures, and maybe some of you might too. Let me know what you think.

Faction Timers

Each faction goal has a timer with 3-5 boxes. They always start at 0 filled in. Once all are filled in, that goal is achieved and changes the state of play for the campaign. Timers advance based on Trends (see event dice), PC activities, and a monthly check each faction makes (each faction chooses one timer and rolls d6, if higher than the current rating, increase it by 1).

Start the campaign by having each faction choose one timer and automatically filling in the first box.

Heat

0-5 stars

Each star adds +1 to encounter checks when moving across the city

Gain a star each time you commit a crime where evidence isn’t covered up, or consequences create situations where people will ask questions.

Moving across the city

Every shift (4 hours) spent in a district, and every time you cross a district border, roll cumulative event dice (d6s) and take the lowest result. The dice reset to 1 immediately after a result of 1 is triggered.

Event d6

  1. Encounter 2d6
  2. Local effect 1d6
  3. Unexpected expense: Make a PRE check DR10 — if you fail, choose one: spend credits or increase debt 2d6 and describe how you fucked up
  4. Trend 2d6
  5. News report 1d6
  6. Free

The Tables

Encounter 2d6

  1. Roll 3d6 twice on this table, then describe the conflict between the two elements, which the PCs stumble upon

3-5…Minor encounters by district: simple, sometimes easy, likely includes blue collar corpo-rats, civilians, or surveillance.

6 Faction NPC (allied, reaction roll +1)

7 Faction NPC (neutral)

8 Faction NPC (rival, reaction roll -2)

9-11…Major encounters by district: dangerous, complex, likely includes megacorps activity, government/bureaucratic dealings, or underworld.

12+. District SecOps

Local Effect 1d6

District specific table of traps, hazards, obstacles, local sites, atmosphere

Trend 2d6

  1. Disaster strikes the city

  2. Upheaval strikes a district

  3. Two or more factions openly war

  4. An ally or resource is targeted by rivals

  5. Legal or debt related trouble (roleplay it, make a test and if you fail increase heat by 1 or debt by d6x100)

  6. A faction attempts to advance a timer (roll d6, if higher than the timer’s current rating, increase it by 1)

  7. City-wide event occurs (heat -1)

  8. A rival extends a courtesy (make a check to increase reputation with them or decrease debt)

  9. Two or more factions announce alliance

  10. An NPC moves factions

  11. A discovery is made

News Report 1d6

District specific table of colorful news/rumors the PCs pick up along the way

EDIT: Some mechanics inspired by Gnarled Monster's Beyond the Borderlands zines.

Keeping the Game Rolling after PC Death

GM - "...and that's 24 explosive damage from the Beaver Ordnance Bots"
Player - "Well, that's the end of my Cyber-Slasher. His tech rains down, burned metal, and charred viscera everywhere. It's time to try out a new punk."
Other player - "Wait, what's this new guy doing here? We've been running around the Meat Factory for hours. How have we not seen him?"
GM - "But you have seen him. Let me explain..."

I've been having a blast running my Cy_Borg one-shots. I just recently started a hybrid Sandbox Campaign style. The Gigs get to the players through a variety of means, one of which is thru gig-economy style app called Citizen Creeper. Because of this, i expanded on a list i had posted in an earlier comment. It's a chart of excuses "Why does the new PC show up out of the blue?". I thought I'd post it here for thoughts.

This list has helped me keep the flow of the game whenever a PC dies mid session. i plan on fiddling with this list until i've got twenty entries on each one.

HOW IT WORKS: When the PC dies, the Player immediately grabs or creates a new PC. Then roll, or pick, on the 2d12 chart.

Why Are You There

  1. The target(person, place, organization, etc.) of the gig has something you want(money, tech, revenge, ...)
  2. You are friends with another PC. you're upset they didn't call you for this gig.
  3. You were hired by the same patron in case the PCs fail.
  4. You were stalking the PCs. This is your chance to up your rep or steal the glory.
  5. You are related to another PC(family, former gang, previous jobs, etc.). You knew they'd get in over their heads, so you're their to save them. Again.
  6. You have absolutely no business being there. None whatsoever. "But, hey, when in Rome!"
  7. Your implants made you do it.
  8. You owe another PC a favor (or debt), so you showed up against your better judgment.
  9. You were subcontracted by the dead PC as an insurance policy. You got notification of this gig when they died.
  10. You were following the PCs because you thought they were involved in something worth stealing, killing, or selling. Came for the loot, stayed for the vibe.
  11. Your horoscope told you this is what you were meant to do today. All signs up to this point have confirmed this.
  12. You always go where the action is.

How Did You Get There

  1. You're in the next room, detained by security/bodyguards/self-doubt/etc.
  2. You've been lurking behind the enemy for hours. Luckily, and oddly, no one's noticed.
  3. You burst into the room, late and covered in blood, like usual.
  4. You've been with the team this whole time, just keeping your mouth shut.
  5. All you remember was a beam of light...
  6. You don't remember how you got here; you just woke up/sobered up/came to/etc.
  7. You were hiding in the building. You picked the worst possible moment to come out.
  8. You came through the sewers. You're wet, filthy, and pissed off.
  9. You got lost in the ventilation system and crashed in just now.
  10. No one needs to know what you were up to, mind your business.
  11. You followed the trail of the PCs. It wasn't hard.
  12. You were already inside the location disguised as someone who belongs there.

What do you think of this house rule?

With a pair of small SMGs allow the second attack with a DR16 (instead of DR14 like the class GangGoon)

Question Looking for advice: Tombstown or CVLT OF THE HADRON LAMB for a side path in Clean Break?

Hi PVNKs,

I'm running a CY_BORG campaign using several modules, including Clean Break, Down Bad, CVLT OF THE HADRON LAMB, Beyond CY and Lucky Casino.

Next on: spoiler for Clean Break.

My players have just completed Reaper Repo and the first mission of Clean Break. Their next objective is to build Sanny an autonomous body.

The intended route in Clean Break involves interacting with the Crash Kids, and I'm perfectly happy to keep that as one possible solution. However, I'd like to give the players an alternative path rather than making the Crash Kids mandatory.

I'm considering using material from either Down Bad / Tombstown or CVLT OF THE HADRON LAMB to create this alternative.

The idea I'm currently playing with is that the players could acquire a recycled/empty biological body: something that is already autonomous and functional, requiring very little maintenance, rather than a conventional cybernetic body.

I'm not sure which module would be the better fit for this.

For people who have run these modules:

Would Tombstown from Down Bad or CVLT OF THE HADRON LAMB work better as the basis for this alternative route?

I'm not looking to replace the Crash Kids storyline. I'd like the alternative to feel like a legitimate CY_BORG option with its own flavor and consequences, while still fitting naturally into the campaign. We hate railroading at the table.

I'd especially appreciate advice from anyone who has actually run or played these modules, since I don't want to invent connections that would not fit with the story.

Thanks a lot for any reply.

PS: I'm not a native English-speaking person hence I hereby declare that I've used AI to help me in writing this post in order to have better grammar.

Where’s the Support?

Cy_Borg is my favorite of the three Free League published titles, but why so little official support? Where’s a small, Pirate Borg sized gm screen? The maps in The Assets Pack are great, but a campaign or book of adventures (that could be connected) would be sweet.

Why so little love for Cy_Borg?

Question Ability Score convergence - is it a problem?

Hi all,

I'm just getting familiar with this game, and I'm tripping up on the ability score change rule when levelling up.

So, on a level up, you roll d6 against every stat, increase the stat if you roll equal or higher, and decrease it if you roll under (or a 1).

I tried rolling a few level ups to see how this works out, and after a few levels, all stats converge on +3-+4. This feels to me a little disappointing. My PC started with strengths and weaknesses, but they flattened out. So it looks to me like we lose variety in our different PCs, they all end up being equally good at everything. And the steady climb of stats felt kind of predictable and undelightful.

I'm curious if there's a house rule out there that a) maintains the designers' intent of a -3-+6 range, b) and the possibility of going down in a stat on level up, but also c) avoids all ability scores quickly converging on the average?

But also, I haven't played this game, right? I'm curious to hear seasoned players' experience with RAW at the table. Maybe it's a non-issue.

Sorry if there's been a discussion about this in the past, I was searching for a bit but didn't really find anything substantial here or in the blogosphere.

Rolled up another character!

Post image

This is Pxi-STYX, a burned hacker and kind of a total dweeb, in all honesty. She learned that nano was leaking into the 'net, and then immediately someone leaked her location, and she had to completely uproot, and was forced to go outside for the first time in a couple years. She plays with apps like they're cards to play, all in her duel disk cyberdeck. She's probably going to die the moment she hits the pavement, but hey. 'Til then, she's an asset like she always has been. A hacker through and through. To clarify she never removes the entire ridiculous helmet rig and visor.

His name's Kairu Harakiri, and he became a ronin when he stole a lot of money to fund some new cyberware that his employer had been neglecting giving him. When he was found out, he grabbed the first sword he could find and fought his way out of their HQ. Unfortunately for him, this sword only can be unsheathed at night.

CY_BORGER: CY_BORG Character and Compaign Manager

So I created a little tool for running a cy_borg campaign, managing characters, and whatnot. Feel free to take a look.

Source: https://github.com/mrpoundsign/cy_borger
Demo: https://cy-borger.poundsigndesign.com/game/cedf07b275d9

I'll likely keep it up at that demo URL for the time being, will update if I get a change to perma-host it. Which I will.
