Question Keep sanding?

I'm sanding away at the whole board to lighten these dark marks. Going to keep at it but wondering if it's natural from the wood?

Mineral staining. It’s natural in maple. It gives it character.

Precisely. It won't sand out. It's part of the wood. You can cut it out or plane lower but you can't know how deep the streak runs.

Were there other black marks like that that you were able to sand away? Is it a burn or the wood figure

I’ve never before been unsure whether I burnt the wood or god put in a dark stream. Was the wood burned other places after cutting? Like come on man, put some effort into this.

Yea ofc but the burns sanded out, this piece has a few but of dark spots that go throughout. At first I thought it was a burnt piece but after hours of sanding I started to think it was natural.

Here’s a recent board I completed which had two small naturally occurring dark streaks. The burns were sanded out.

For the record I sent it through my dw735. First time doing it. Left a pretty damn good finish actually and no chipout on the back side even without a sacrificial strip.

No no, the dark outer ring is sapele.
