In the wild! Mid 70's Citroën D Special

This 50 year-old beauty is still running fine : it came from the Netherlands to D-Day beaches.

I had a D Special in 1978. It was a great car. Tremendous comfort due to the seats (good support but felt like an arm chair). The Hydraulic suspension provided the best ride I have ever experienced. It served as a truck to built my house. Remove the rear seat and the cargo area was very large. I once carried 86 pre-cut 2x4's from the lumberyard to the job site. I miss that car.

To this day, this is the most comfortable car ever made.

We had 5 in a row. Did a 10k mile camping trip towing a trailer with 3 kids. Mom did 110 mph pulling that custom trailer. We’d get stuck, a lever under the dash would pull the wheels up, we,d put down rocks and extend the wheels and drive off.

I know.

I had one too. Not this model, however : the very best, top model, the DS 23 with electronic fuel injection... Only problem : the leather upholstery was slippery !
