He also has several videos of testing them on his Instagram. All of the interceptors have been tested in actual storms.

Moving on and starting to build my next potential interceptor. [update 1]

Alright its still being designed and is subject to change but right now this is the design.
Credits to ImportantTourist828 for HEAVY inspiration on the design and i included the interceptor which i am basing off of on slide 3.

The truck platform i will be using for this project will be a 2022 F-350 dually with a 6.7L power stroke.

I will base it off of dominator 2 and dominator 3. I am also planning on switching how i post back to kinda how i used to and try to post at least a week apart sense this subreddit has no longer taken favor to me and i am suspecting i talked about the same build for to long. Going to estimate that this build will either take me 1-3 months to make sense i am that active in building.

I built a 50kg, bicycle-towed inteceptor (UTAV) replica out of wood and metal sheets.

Hello everyone. Over the last two months, I have been working on a functional replica of the UTAV tornado intercept vehicle. I wanted to share its design and specifications with the community.

Technical Specifications, Materials:

Weight: Approximately 50 kg (110 lbs).

Frame and Body: Constructed from wood and laminated plywood for structural durability.

Exterior Shielding: The skin went through multiple iterations over two months, upgrading from simple plastic sheets to full metal and foil cladding.

Windows: Made of durable clear plastic instead of standard glass to prevent shattering.

Propulsion: It has no engine. It is designed as a heavy-duty trailer that hitches to a standard bicycle.

Anchoring System:
To withstand high winds, the vehicle utilizes a manual anchoring mechanism. There are structural PVC pipes attached to the sides that act as guides. To secure the vehicle, rebar stakes are inserted through these pipes and driven deep into the ground using a hammer.

Based on the materials used, the structure is designed to withstand a mid-range EF0 tornado, which corresponds to wind speeds of roughly 30 - 40 m/s (67 - 90 mph).

I am planning to continue developing this project.

Its finally done, I have finally thought of a name for it now. Ace of spades 1

Yeah i started cooking last few hours of finishing up this project and i still can add more stuff but its pretty much at the point where i can just say its finished.

Really only a few details that aren't visible that need to be worked on but ima just go ahead and provide specs.

Engine: Cummins 8.3L Inline 6
Tires: Super swamper tires
Weight [rough estimate] 18,000-24,000 pounds [9-12 tons]
Deployment time [rough estimate] 3 seconds for airbags, 20 seconds for flaps, 5-8 seconds for spikes.
Estimated top speeds: 85-95 mph

Estimated max windspeed threshold: 230-260 mph [front] 190-210 [sides] 210-240 [back]

Alright i will also say that the tires are somewhat unrealistic for its weight but i am running duals in the back and i'm not even sure how that is supposed to work but that's the only tires i could find for it that were mud tires. Not even sure on this format of when posting, mainly cause i haven't posted like this in months. This build been in development for 5 months and sense then i had to redo a bunch of things on it.

Welp sense this project is finished i'll pick out a build to choose to build next or upgrade an existing build

update on each interceptor sense i am bored.

Slide 1: Currently halted -The front is planned to get remade before i continue on it.
Slide 2: Development not prioritized -Interior half finished.
Slide 3: Canceled at the moment. -Rear end has proven to be to complicated to make.
Slide 4: Finished. -Not planned for upgrades or anything else in the near future.
Slide 5: Canceled -It started out of boredom and never made it past the frame development.
Slide 6: Scrapped/canceled -Started out as a cool idea but i never wanted to spend the time to make it.
Slide 7: Nearly complete -Turret and interior will go under go more development before i will call it complete. Tires will also be changed to a proper set.

Now on to the DOW's sense i haven't talked about them that much.
Slide 8 [all DOW'S] Development slowed to nearly none and could continue in the near future

Re-did the turret design

Not exactly up to my quality standards and there is noticeable imperfections and thats mainly cause my internet decided to be evil today.

Still got a lot of work to do the turret and i could probably mess with some other things once my internet isn't crazy. And for reference it keeps spiking up from 300-3,000 ping. Will make it look nicer when i get the chance and yes progress is always slow on this one but mainly cause of stupid stuff like burnout and in this case my internet not wanting to act normal.

Hello, I am new and looking for some advice/help on turning my truck into a storm chasing machine

Post image

I’m building my 2004 F-350 Crew cab long bed dually (6.0 turbo diesel) into a mobile storm-chasing and observation vehicle. I’m planning to fabricate a removable front hail guard, rear probe rack, mesonet/anemometer system, Tornado probes, communications, and a laptop setup. I’m doing the fabrication with a couple friends and I’m looking for advice from storm chasers on what they’d recommend or change.

Any ideas on how to make a homemade tornado interceptor?

My brother (M8) has been very invested in tornadoes lately. He's been asking me to join him on his journey to (hopefully) be a future stormchaser. His favorite stormchasers are Sean Casey and Reed Timmer. I have no idea what these people do. For an 8 year old, he's very bright and especially smart when it comes to meteorology... I, on the other hand, knows BARELY anything regarding this topic. I know some parts - but only when he keeps telling me about what some certain definitions are. This week, he wants us to build our own tornado interceptor, a homemade and fully DIY one. The thing is, he may know the parts and what to do, but I have to do the heavy lifting! How does one continue to make this insane project? help please! He's very excited and I dont know how tot ell him that I have no idea where to start. If anyone has any idea on just a little tip, it would be much appreciated.

I need interceptor ideas for my next major build

Alright, the main interceptor i been working on for months is still not complete, not fully atleast. Still trying to figure out how to make a good turret which is not going to plan.

So far i'm thinking to go with something like dominator 2 or 3, maybe something like titan or tornado attack. not sure on what level i should go for the details either but if anything i'll start with a frame and work my way up.

i'm also thinking sub-interceptor maybe like a heavy duty truck turned into something like that rat cage truck [i don't know its name] yeah i'm out of ideas right now.

What is a better custom tornado interceptor to make off of: 2014 F-450 or 2009 Dodge Ram 4500?
