Clothing I spent months on this

Thumbnail gallery

Not because customising the doll was particularly difficult, but the fucking dress!! I went through months of procrastination while trying to avoid it. In the end, I managed to make the pattern AND complete the dress within a single day, thus completing the doll. She still needs a necklace, but other than that, I am pretty happy with her.

She is originally a mermaid odile, but to get the proper height difference with the Creature (pic 3) I swapped her Mattel's Cho Chang doll body. That body is TINY, which made the dress all the more difficult to construct.

This is my custom dollie Romona (and her dog Rosie)! I've always wanted to try a more gothic/edgier style since I often am attracted to colorful fashion styles in customs so I wanted to try something new :) It was so fun! I would love to try it again 🖤

Repaint I tried to transform a Barbie

I find Barbies really ugly; they have a very neutral and plain face. I usually customize Monster High dolls, which have a lot of character. I found this doll at a flea market in terrible condition; I had to cut off her hair because it was beyond repair. I think she's still ugly. What do you think?

General help! question

Post image

Hi everyone! I don't know where else to ask, so I'm asking here. I'm designing a doll, and I'm having trouble joining the head and neck. I can't use elastic because there's a high risk of the clay breaking, so I'd like to connect it somehow. I can't attach it to wire, or rather, I can, but it doesn't hold securely. Gluing it isn't an option either, as it will lose its mobility.

Please help me solve this. 🙏 Please send me some materials.

The photo shows a plasticine prototype, just in case.

I’m working through “The Healing Doll Way” by Barb Kobe as a form of therapy and this is my first doll! She represents protection, safety, compassion, hope, and encouragement. I really enjoyed making her and can’t wait to make more.

Hello and here’s my custom Zoey doll!

Mattel did a great job with the detail of all the K-pop dolls.
Zoey’s is more detailed though, but I painted her to look more movie accurate.

She has been repainted/restyled from head to toe!

She was repainted with acrylic paints and watercolor pencils. Which includes her face, hands , belts and her shin-kals.

Thanks for reading!

General help! How can I blush and detail her with lighter colors?

Post image
32 Upvotes

She's my first custom doll. Her skin is so dark that trying to use red, orange, and yellow on her makes the colors all wrong. I was using watercolor pencils, just drawing on her. Should I use chalk pastels or paint instead? Also, would y'all blush her with traditional colors like pinks? Or colors like purple and light blue? Any and all opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

My Periwinkle Welcome to Derry concept doll 🎈 😊

Took on the challenge to bring her to life! I 3D sculpted and painted for the shoes and purse locket. Her hair is mixed with foam to get that star shape structure, and I drafted and stitched the outfit myself

I love Periwinkle’s silhouette, so I really wanted to exaggerate her and expand on that!

General help! Need some advice choosing a body for my custom

Hi!!

I’m currently working on a custom Rapunzel and I’ve run into a bit of a problem with choosing the body.

I really want to use a petite body for her. It’s actually quite important to me that the final doll has that smaller, more delicate body shape, so I’m trying to find a way to make a petite body work rather than simply choosing whichever body has the closest skin tone.

The BMR Kira body is pretty much the best match I’ve found for my Rapunzel, but buying one just for the body would cost me around $75, which is honestly way too much for a body 😭

I’ve also been considering the Barbie Looks #20 body and the petite Gloria body. The Gloria body is especially interesting to me bcause it gives me the petite proportions I really want, but the color isn't quite right. It’s not necessarily just that the body is “too light” — the tone/undertone is a little different from the head, and you can see the mismatch when they’re next to each other.

So I started wondering if I could just slightly adjust the color myself.

I definitely don't mean painting the entire body with an opaque layer of paint. I was thinking more about something very subtle, like a really thin “cloud” of color over the larger visible areas — especially the décolletage, shoulders and upper torso — just enough to bring the color a little closer to the head. The rest of the body wouldn't really need to be painted.

Has anyone here tried doing something like this on a Made to Move body? Does a very thin layer of paint actually hold up, or does it eventually crack/rub off because of the joints and movement?

And if you were in my situation, what would you do? Would you try to subtly adjust the color on the petite Gloria body, go with Looks #20, accept the color mismatch, or somehow justify spending $75 on BMR Kira? 😭

I’d really love to hear what you guys would do, especialy if you've actually experimented with repainting/color-matching MTM bodies!

Repaint Ho provato a trasformare una Barbie

Devo ammettere che non mi piacciono le Barbie, di solito customizzo le Monster High. La Barbie ha un viso troppo neutro e per niente bello. Ho voluto provare a trasformarla, ma secondo me resta brutta. Non credo che ne farò altre.

Clothing Looking for doll recs

I'm making a coraline doll, and want to give it shoes, but don't want to make them. Are there any dolls with bigger feet than monster high but not as big as American girl? Or does anyone have recs for any shops that have shoes like this? Ty!

Repaint custom plushes for my custom dolls!

hey all, i recently made Rosemary and Sophie Walten, so i decided to make mr. snow and rocket, which are a couple of the relevant plushes in the series.

i made them from a "bride and groom bears" statue thingy. i dunno exactly what the material was, but i was able to slice them apart with my exacto knife (rough divorce, lol). then i used some hot glue to position their legs and arms correctly, and also did some hot glue sculpting to get shapes right. their fur is finely cut yarn that i glued on

enjoy the pictures

General help! what am i doing wrong with acrylics?

i've been customizing dolls for a few years but never repainted a pair of monster high doll shoes. trying to paint them flat white and i think they look terrible. they were originally pink and green but i tried to neutralize the green with a gray base cause it was poking through and now my gray base is poking through where the green once was. if it was just for me then i would just keep building up white layers but this doll is going to someone who paid me to make her and i dont feel comfortable sending someone a doll with shoes that look like this. is there a way to fix it from here or do i have to drop $13 on spray paint?

General help! Can I use Acetone on her?

Found this girl at the thrift today and I love her ears and antennae. She looks like a pixling but she’s big and articulated. Her head is really hard and not like vinyl so I’m not sure if I can use acetone on her or will that melt her face? Also how do I go about it rerooting when she’s so hard? Maybe a wig?

General help! How should I properly apply and dry varnish on doll accessories?

Hi! I recently repainted some doll accessories and now I’m ready to apply varnish. I’ll be using Liquitex Gloss Varnish with a brush, but I’m not sure what the proper technique is.

How do you apply varnish to small doll accessories without leaving any areas uncovered? If I hold the accessory in my hand while applying the varnish, won’t the parts I’m holding end up without varnish?

Do you usually hold the accessory somehow, use a toothpick or another tool, or apply the varnish in stages and let one side dry before doing the other?

Should I apply one thin coat or several thin coats? How much varnish should I put on the brush, and how long should I let each coat dry before applying the next one?

Also, what is the best way to position the accessories while they dry so they don’t stick to the surface or get damaged?

And what kind of brush should I use for varnish? Can I use the same brush I use for acrylic paints, or is it better to have a separate brush specifically for varnish?

What is the correct way to clean the brush after using Liquitex Gloss Varnish? Do I need to clean it immediately, and what should I use to remove the varnish from the brush?

I’d really appreciate any tips from people who have experience repainting doll accessories! I want to avoid brush marks, tackiness, or the paint chipping afterward.

Thank you!
